Theoretical 220 S55 vs. 221 S600

I found myself first in line at one of my favorite lights, and noticed a 221 pull up behind me. Not wanting to hold him up, I did a quick 0-60 when the light changed. Being more mature than me (chronologically as well as emotionally), he did not gas it hard, but just pulled away from the stop. At the next light he passed as I was waiting to turn left, and to my pleasant surprise it was a 600. Sweet ride!

The current 221 600 motor is much stronger than my 220 55K, but the 221 is much heavier than my 220.

how interesting a race would that be?

And how damn entertaining would it be to watch 4.5 tons of S-Class at full throttle, with 1000+ hp and 1100+ ft-lbs of tq???

and did I mention the 221 600 is a sweet ride?

edit: i just realized that I may have slighted previous generation S600 owners. My most humble apologies, as they are all sweet rides

It's pretty damn entertaining for sure. My brother and I line 'em up everytime we're together, from a dig, a roll, whatever....we don't care. A 220 S600 and a 220 S65 respectively

German vehicles stink, will never buy again. Moved on to Toyota and BYD.
I don't think weight really matters with that kind of power.... I don't notice any lag when my car is full of people or empty. I imagine it would be more of an issue if one were able to strip out a lot of weight. The motor is just so strong it should really power a train or an airplane. I just wish the car had better handling so I can bob and weave through traffic better.

I notice that my W220 is a lot more nimble than my father's S550 4Matic. He has a bigger back seat which I like but you can definitely feel it when you drive.

I have such a hard time finding places to let the car rip and I sometimes spook my passengers accidently by slamming the gas to catch a light and my car is stock. I can't imagine the difference the ECU/TCU tune is going to make.

my S55 is very nimble for a huge sedan, but I'm sure an M5 would crush me on a road course. I have too much understeer when trying to corner at fun speeds, so I have to go with the (technically correct) theory of "slow in, fast out". Like you said, the motor is so strong I can make good time that way because I can launch off the exit very hard. I might be able to beat a Miata in a road race because of the extreme power advantage, but a fast, good handling car should probably beat me. That's why I haven't taken it to Summit Point (local road course), I don't want to be the jackass hammering down the straights just to hold everyone up in the turns. That and the $3,000 in tires and brakes I'd eat while trying to get out of the way.

I have freaked a couple people out, *mostly* by accident. One was my wife, not so much by accident!

I used to freak myself out.
It took me a month to become one with the power.

I think in the long run he would have pulled on you but still it would have been a good run. Most of the 600's are underated from factory. Ricker with his sl600 just posted a dyno with 501whp stock with very minor mods.

Get a pulley/ECU and amaze people on how a big body benz can move.

Your S600 is equipped with Active Body Control. Your father's S550 isn't. It has the standard Airmatic. Next time try a W221 with the newer, second gen ABC. I guarantee your opinion will change.

yes, I agree that I might win stoplight-to-stoplight since i'm 300 pounds lighter, but once the 221 600 gets rolling i will probably end up reading trunk badging.

I am impressed by the 1st gen ABC on my S55, I'll have to check out a 2nd gen example. It would be interesting to see how much flatter they can make flat cornering. Is it much faster in transitions than the 1st gen?
