Amazing top speed vid (SL65,Gallardo,GT2,ZR1,Viper)

I realize many diehards have seen this but for the rest of the mortals this should be a nice appetizer. Although it’s in German keep watching... the top speed (vmax) will be posted on the screen. Here is a link to convert kmh to mph if u can’t divide by 1.61 http://www.eforecourt.com/mph_kph_speed_convert.htm
PS. The SL65 is referred to as a "prototype" and I’m not sure what that means. It’s not a black series but may have been tuned?

Non AMG people underestimate the cars. I have seen low 200s in my 55 on several occasions! Since I obviously have tuning.... would they consider me a 'prototype'?

Once you remove the speed limiter, the AMG 55 cars do 188 MPH, so with a little tuning you can get to 200 MPH. You better have the correct tires if you are going to do 188 or 200+ MPH since they will disintegrate with a sustained speeds of these levels.

The car is so stable at high speed, it is truly a testament to the job that AMG has done with the car.
Actually, once the speed limiter is removed, you are free to Vmax. AMG generally raises the limit to 186/300kph at the factory.
The tire issue has to do with not just speed rating, but a weight rating as well. The PS2 comes in sizes that are rated for both, which is what I have. The word 'sustained' is also key. In the real world (especially in the US), the odds of anything more than a few seconds at Vmax is what is actually going to happen which will not stress tires. I have never seen more than a 1 psi increase at each tire at speed, so I know that heat is not causing any issues.
But whatever you do... have fun and be safe!

Ok, So if you remove the limiter on say an E55 you are going to get it up near 200 MPH correct? Now factor in a C55 without the limiter any ideas on where that will top out? Thanks!

Take a look at this website for your top speed Vmax calculation:
http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/tyres.html
The speed limiter is in software of course and tuners can remove it for you. According to the AMG people I spoke with at various AMG Challenges, the limiter is there mainly for liability & insurance reasons AND tire limitation. They just don't want anyone doing 180 MPH+ and tires disintegrating on them, even the best drivers can't do much when that happens except hit something very hard.
I believe the Black Series cars have no top speed limiters. (correct me if I wrong on this one).

That website is stricly for calculating the relationship between speed and gearing. In other words the formula takes no consideration for coefficient of friction, frontal surface area and rwhp.
CLK63 Black - 186 Factory limited
SL65 Black - 199 Factory limited (possibly 210 delimited)
