distronic not working

distronic not working
hi guys,
my 2002 S55 with 107k miles has a "distronic currently inoperable" error message on the dash.
i've tried cleaning the front lens as well as the doing an alignment.
i did have a small fender bender recently(which may have helped cause) and AAA insurance may be picking up the, but what do you guys think could be the issue?
Also, assuming insurance will pay($3200), is this a good to repair - or is it better to "cash out" and perhaps save the money for other items in the future?
