Star Diagnostics?
Well I think I have finally been pushed over the edge. I can't stand the thought of being at the dealerships mercy anymore.
I am at the point where if I can't start fixing my S55 myself for MUCH less than the dealer my wife is going to kill me and the car will have to go.
I have done all the pros and cons on what I would get to replace the S55 and can't think of any other vehicle I want that has the Horsepower I need and all the other cool stuff the MB has. I use to be a Vette guy but now I have a wife and kid so that is a no go. I thought of maybe a W221 S600 but then I am still in the same boat with repairs and I would have to spend oodles more cash to get it.
2 weeks ago I dropped $2500 for a new strut and now it looks like I also need a new ABC pump. So from what I have seen here that is a very high cost. I have found a NEW ABC pump from www.car-stuff.com for about $260!!! So I think I am going to buy the start diagnostics equipment and just do it myself. I am very mechanically inclined and feel very confident. I know it is a big up front cost to get the star diagnostics BUT come on this must stop.
Hey Oxygen did you buy the star diagnostics and is it easy enough to figure out? Thanks for any help or opinions.

yea man while I would love to have Star I dont think are cars are THAT bad to where we would need it, CLOSE tho ill have to say some of us are VERY close haha damn electronic SAMS/DCMS etc.
I Love the S55 so I can understand your pain.
Why dont you try posting an ad in craigslist saying you need a certified and experienced Mercedes Tech with access to star. Youd be suprised. They are out there and provide just as if not better service then dealership with axed cost

I started carrying OEM Star systems and it really made working on my SL55 allot easier. It was well worth the money.

We experimented with the systems from ebay. They are mostly clones from China, and the ones that we worked with had too many bugs, were unreliable and had issues. That's why we went OEM.
