Top speed limiter delete

S55 owners (and other MB owners) in Europe can order an option to delete the top speed limiter. I know that MB USA would never consider this option in the US due to their fear of liability issues. But the process seems to be software driven and is obviously easily done in Europe.

Dinan in the US offers this chip "reprogramming" for BMW Z8 owners in the US where the software eliminates the top speed limiter and also raises the redline in 1st and second gear by 300 rpm. There is no factory problem with the Dinan mods and Dinan assumes coverage on any warranty issues that the factory won't cover

Are there any reputable US tuners or sources for MB chip reprogramming that will eliminate the limiter, that any forum members have had experience with?

Brabus or Renntech perhaps?

Both of them are excellent choices. As far as I know, Brabus only removes the max. speed limiter while RENNtech includes this feature in their ECU upgrade (which is more expensive, but gives you additional 25 HP).

Brabus/Renntech

Thanks for the info. I will follow up with their US reps. I can't imagine another 25 hp on top of 493 already available in my 03 !!

I've had a reply from Brabus in Newport Beach CA. They will remove the limiter from the software by reprogramming for the measly amount of $3,500. I had initially received an email from Brabus quoting $5,000 but when I called and spoke to a sales person the price was lower.

Personally I would feel better if the work was done by AMG or Mercedes as they do in Europe as part of the option package when you buy the car.

Does anyone know if AMG has a US office or if they are simply part of MBUSA

Never forget the disadvantages of a speed limiter removal from someone else than AMG:

AMG does not see tuners as competition. If they wanted to make money with their Vmax derestriction, they would offer it through every Mercedes-Benz dealership.

V-Max and other tuners are the only way to go for delimiter in North America! Mercedes-Benz/AMG won't touch this thing here.

Are there some roads or even states where driving 155+ mph is officially allowed in the US?

Why should I know anything about US traffic laws. Especially if they are the same in every state.

I could speed 155+ mph every day on my way to work, but I haven't derestricted both my AMGs. Doesn't make sense to me. If I really want to speed, I visit the next race track where I don't have to fear a Nissan Micra jumping in front of me.

I saw your profile and simly had to use the Nissan Micra as an example

There's nothing wrong with a Nissan Micra, but I guess there is a gap between its Vmax and the Vmax of a derestricted SL 55
