I am looking for input from owners who have had experience with both engines in their AMG's. I currently have an S55 and love it, thinking of adding a CLS or S with the 63 engine.
I know the specs of both engines, but appreciate your real-world input as to the differences in feel, noise, low-end thrust, upper-end thrust, etc.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

I'm currently in a 2010 E63, had a 2008 E63, a 2005 E55, and just sold my SL55 this past week... IMHO (and I'm not a gear head, just a normal guy whol loves his AMG cars), it's impossible to compare the engines without bringing the tranny into play.
Nothing beats the ROAR and TWITCH of the 55's in my opinion. Raw... playful... and a beast when you hit the gas. The 63's power feels a lot more linear... and it really only gets your heart racing after 60 or 70mph. However, when mated with the new Speedshift tranny, the 63 just sings.
My 2010 E63 w/ the Speedshift seems to have combined the best qualities of the old SC 55 engine and the new N/A 63.

Ian,
Thanks, very good input. You have a great point, one should consider the entire power train since it is the transmission that sends the power and torque to the rear wheels.
BTW, I noticed you are in Irvine, I will look for you in your E63 on the 405.
Thanks

I have driven the 63 and obviously the 55 engine.
What I like about the 63 engine is definitely the "Grunt" as well as the sound!
Engine is awesome!
As mentioned by Ian the tranny plays a huge role in this comparison; but regards to daily driving they are both very civil.
If you're like me and you love the exhilaration of the low end WOT, i would suggest the 55.
Don't want to be bias but I would lean towards the 55, because in the end the 63 engine is still a NA!
