Tires- Continental Extreme Contact DW
Time for new tires on my 04 S55. Anyone running these Conti Extreme DW's? It has a high rating on TireRack with good tread life and other specs. I am sticking with OEM size: 245/45-18 and 265/40-18.
Any real life comments appreciated.
Thanks.

I have a set of the all-season version (DWS) on my 04 S55 and it's a great tire. I have a real good chance of getting 2 years / 30K miles out of them.

I too have the DWS version on my Crossfire SRT-6 Roadster. Excellent during the rain without much compromise in the performance area. I will strongly consider them when time for new ones on the CLS.

have both - run the DWS's for the winter and the DW's as a summer set up. Here's what I notice between the two (caveat being that the DWS's are on my stock wheels and the DW's are on 19's).
-Not really any grip difference in the wet or dry (don't know about snow - never will)
-the DWS's have softer side walls so you feel more "push" when cornering hard - however the up side is that it makes the ride more compliant on the DWS's (could also have to do with the 18 v 19 difference.
-Tread pattern is different - subjective
-took more weight to balance the the DW's
-the DW's are quieter (but the DWS's are pretty quiet)
-both show minimal wear (DWS's suffered more than an occasional burn out and the DW's have been to the track)
-DWS's have a 50,000 mile warranty - I don't think the DW's have a warranty
Bottom line - if I had to do it over again - I would have gotten the DWS's in 19's and sold my stockers. I like the concept of having a dedicated summer tire but the DWS's are MORE than capable of handling the cornering duties in a Benz. If we were talking about a dedicated sports car or something built more for cornering than straight line - I may have a different opinion...

How many miles are these tires lasting on your cars? Getting tired of changing tires every 12-14K miles with Michelin.

I have about 12-13K on mine and have at least another year to go at 15K a year (mostly highway miles so it's easy on the tread). I still have the "S" in DWS, which is the supplemental tread-wear indicator.

Have a set of DW's waiting to be put on. Agree that the reviews on Tire Rack swayed my decision. No need for an all season here in Vegas. I really hope these wear better than the stockers but this car does eat tires.

I swapped my NT05 Nittos after 4k miles, rears were almost to the wear bars, fronts were vibrating a bit. Stick like glue though. I could light the pilot sports at 30 mph, the Nitto's hold anywhere above 20 (10 on a really hot day)
I'm hoping to get 10k out of this next set with a little more judicious throttle application.
