MBWorld Fanatic!
Be careful with that stuff, tried it from VeteranCo a while ago.
unisuede looks like terry cloth after a few months, plus it is 2 layers of material, which separate if you have to scrub a spot out. and after about 2 years of people putting their finger prints through it... it separates.
Alcantara is the only way to go.
I do have to wonder how you can do a S class for $650, especially because the unisuede doesn't stretch well and would require stitching for the areas around the handles in the headliner and the sunroof. plus to pull the headliner out without bending it the front 2 seats and center console had to come out and the rear bench seat... did one for a friend when the 221 came out in 06... Alcantara though.
Also, if you have good connections to someone overseas, get that alcantara. I tried the USA stuff and it has a flame retardant backing on it that actually causes the front to look a bit weird.
Another thing about the unisuede I forgot, I did the same friends dash on his race car and the sun faded it... alcantara has a higher UV rating.
Good luck with it though, I don't know how you make any money off it, unless the "and up" price comes in effect. You would make a killing over where I am at.

2005 SL500 BLK/Charcoal Sport, Porsche 2013 Turbo Cayenne
Hi Jbondox.
I wanted to ask you for some advice since you are up on the alcantara info. I have an SL500 and have been dying to get the whole headliner done. I got one very high price (I assume) of $4000. Is there any way to buy the headliner assembled and have it installed or must it be done by stretching and cutting the actual material and so forth? Thanks, Rob.
