I've seen cars left on blocks with their rims stolen but this takes the cake.

That car was raped, pillaged, and plundered

I wonder how much money the owner made on the part out

All serious now. I am very interested in the story behind why the S65 is like that now.

I have no idea. Listed for sale at upcoming Manheim auction, one of the few cars to get a CR (condition report) score of 0.0.

What is left to make it a S65 at this point? To me someone bought a VIN# to put on a stolen car.....It just seems a little suspect. Then someones nice S65 dissapears and goes over seas with a meaningless salvage/rebuild title(outside USA). I understand it may not be the case, but shouldn't be ruled out either....Something to think about.

You're right, all this is would be for the VIN#. Then again, it's most likely a salvage VIN# at that, without a matching engine #. Pretty much worthless. Might as well be buying a S430 or S500 frame. Any more than ~$2k and the buyer got robbed.

Who cares what they do with the VIN.. Believe me worse things happen to cars with or without a clean VIN. For the price paid this vehicle can be put back together and mobbed around town.

Even if it were free it would still cost you more in parts alone than the price of a used S65. Now add rebuild /salvage to the title and your value is that much less. Buying a S430 for the body doesn't allow you to have a legit S65 VIN# to title so even if you make it a 65 with all of its components it will always appear as a S430 on paper. I'm sure much worse happens, I'm not naive. To me this fits the script of a VIN swap to a stolen car that will be shipped out of the country. If not I look foward to watching the rebuild from the new owner.

you can definitely tell it is not an S430. At the very least it is an S55. You can tell it has the correct AMG spare, pedals, strut, and side skirts. A little investigation would prove if it had a V-12 in the engine bay. AMG is embossed all under the car if it is legit, also.

I don't think anyone is doubting it was an S65...the question is what someone would do with the shell. Not worth it to piece back together. Maybe there's an S65 owner that got in a bad accident and needed a decent shell to swap everything to? The engine still wouldn't match the VIN#, so it would still be pointless, which is why I mentioned the S430 thing.

sorry for the confusion...doubt it would be any use for anything more than to sell the remaining parts

Where would AMG be stamped? Suspension or frame?? Or just everywhere?

Does it really matter whether or not the #s match? I mean if you own a s65 that was wrecked BAD, you get cashed out by the insurance company and swap everything over. Granted this is a Benzo and will be a ***** to move everything over. On top of that any cut wires and you're changing the entire wiring system. Depends on how much money and time you have.

Otherwise like someone else mentioned, you have a stolen car ready for a VIN number donation.

The underside of the car near the driver's door has AMG on it and just about every part has AMG beginning before the part # as a sticker or decal. I believe that I had all of the underbelly pans off of the car when I observed it for the first time. Its probably in more locations than I have noted.
