Trading my W210 E55 AMG for W220 S55 AMG

Hello All,

This is my 1st post in MBWorld in about 4 years since purchasing my Black on Black 1999 E55 AMG in 2008 which has served me quite well. I have used it as my daily driver since then and it has been nothing but a pleasure.

The time (and opportunity) has come to replace it. I bought it from a local MB dealership when it came on trade, 9 years old with just 11k miles!

I just found a pristine 2003 S55 AMG "Designo Espresso Edition" *(Metallic black with brown seats) It was right around the corner from my office, only 27k miles and MINT condition. I had to have it. So I'm picking it up tomorrow.

The deal is already done, but just for fun..

What do you think I should have gotten for my 1999 E55 that just hit 60K miles?

What should I have paid for this bad boy?

Agreed...Way too much for an 03 even with those miles...but on the other hand it does look great!

Selling the E55 as private, I'd start at $10K...as a trade in don't expect much

I saw the pics, nice looking car...looks exactly like mine...even the options look the same--power rears, etc.
Mine is a 2005 and had 52K on it when i bought it three years ago...paid $25.5 but it was a steal...i searched S55's for 6 months to find it?
I did put some 2006 wheels on mine and they really set it off and look awesome.
Congrats on a sweet ride!
Mike

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I really missed this forum.

Mr. Benzes, would love to see pics of yours with those 2006 wheels... Whats the difference? I thought all W220 S55s had the same wheels. Do you mean the 2007 5 Spoke AMG's?

hotgreek, I didn't pay anywhere near the $32k buy-it-now. I suppose I'll be looking at low-low mile S63's in another few years.

Got 10k for the E55. Not bad considering I only paid 15k 5 years and 50k miles ago.. Paid 28k for the S55... Suppose it was a good negotiation because neither of us walk away overjoyed.. I would've liked to pay less..
But after seeing it, I had to have it.

It has only 27k and is literally brand new in every regard. Smells new, shows no wear whatsoever, inside or out. none.

The previous owner (who also has an SLR McLaren) bought it new, had it covered in his garage and only serviced at the local MB dealership.
The pictures on the eBay listing do it no justice. I'll take some semi-pro shots taken when I get the chance.

Any advice you guys can provide to a 1st time S55 owner? I know about maintenance etc. Any cool tricks that aren't obvious?

The E55 had a Pioneer AVIC-D3 head unit and I got very used to bluetooth audio streaming from the iPhone.

Is there any way to play bluetooth audio in this car? This one has the bluetooth telephone adapter and I'm told 2003's have an AUX input in the glove box as an alternative. Seems to be the only sacrifice.

Ill send over some pics of the wheels..they were only done this way for the W220 in 2006.
I updated my phone with an MB bluetooth unit from Ebay. I dont know of a way to add an IPOD without major changes to the radio head unit...not worth ruining the originality for me. let me know if you need the bluetooth unit i used.

Some pics of my S55. My TPMS batteries went dead last year, havent replaced them as of yet.
58K miles now, zero issues other than the TPMS.

WOW those wheels look great!

Let me know when you're ready to get rid of them

Any other issues you've experienced besides TPMS or just scheduled maintenance?

The 2006 wheels are also 19"...I'm pretty **** about maintenance so I have already flushed the transmission fluid and ABC fluids...no issues at all...other that trying to keep the damn thing under 100MPH.

On my '03 I noticed that when heading into the sun in the morning, the dash lights automatically go to full brightness. When there is nobody sitting in the front passenger seat, the headrest will retract down. The outside mirrors can be programmed to fold in when the doors are locked. That's about all I can think about at the moment.

I have mine just sitting in my garage if you want them from my 06 S55. Same as Mr. Benz...19" staggered. PM me if interested.

Also, the settings are in the steering wheel...scroll through until you get to the right one. I can't remember which one..you'll have to play around with the arrow button on the steering wheel....I also noticed that when I roll the window down at highway speeds the radio turns up, and back down when I roll it up...

I like the one touch turn signals for three blinks...probably standard with no setup required...miss it on my E430

Yea, this feature is actually standard on most cars. The Dodge Dakota I drive around for work has the same thing. No where near as nice though;-)

No, the programing is done on the instrument cluster using the steering wheel inputs. I don't have the car with me today but I can check tonight and write down which menus etc.
