Thermostat DIY M113K engine s55 e55 cl55
3/8 ratchet, 8mm socket E10 inverted torx socket
1/2 ratchet, 12pt 17mm, or 12 point 17mm wrench
3/8 2 inch extension
pic channel locks
remove engine cover
Remove front underskirt, there is 10 8mm screws holding it up, and gently pull down starting at one corner.
Then drain the coolant turn the red drain **** counter clockwise, you only have to drain it for a few seconds after the resivoir is empty if you don't want to drain it all and you won't spill much besides what's left in the top of the block and t stat housing.
Remove tension from belt by moving wrench towards passenger side, and the belt will slide right off
Next remove the hose clamp from the upper hose and break the seal around the hose with a pic
Then remove the 2 e10 bolts
You will have to wiggle the housing till it breaks free and pull the bottom up to get it out, and be careful because there is still fluid in the housing.
The longer bolt goes on the driver side and short one on the passenger side. I always like to line up the hose clamp where the imprints are on the hose you don't have to and this is a 87 degree Celsius thermostat 189 fairenhiet.
