What would you consider a decent price to pay for a 2003 S55 with 16,000 miles, perfect condition, one owner, good maintenance records from new, black on black?

14k-15k. Mileage is nice but its still an old OLD car and first year for engine/face lift. I've seen slightly higher mileage S55 on sale for 23k, but that car isn't moving anywhere fast.

Yeah as nice as low miles are I would rather have a higher mileage 05-06.. plus even though it's low miles it's old so God only knows what is going to be needed.. you can spend 10k like nothing on maintaining these cars just buying one.. this is my fourth.. think about all the tens of thousands spent along the years on a regular one that hasn't been done on that one..

Hi E42AMG, can you post or pm me information and pictures of your S55? I can't find it here on this forum. And for that matter, same goes for anybody else with or knows of a good S55 for sale, post or shoot me the info.
And as the pros and cons of buying an old Mercedes, I fully understand most of them. It just boils down to the individual buyer, his or hers individual taste in styling, colors, 2 or 4 door, acceptable performance level, personal risk level for known design flaws and associated costs to repair and maintain at a high level a nice Mercerdes deserves, etc. Kinda like the age old arguments for Chevy vs Ford vs Mopar, there really is no solid winners or losers. Goes the same way for a S55 vs S600 vs S65 or for that matter, a CL55 vs S55 vs E55, all are good cars in my opinion, just depends on what is your favorite flavor of ice cream. As for the above S55, it checks all positive boxes for me, but most importantly, it looks, smells, and feels absolutely new. Very impressive for such an old car. Has been stored and maintained impeccably, has all records from new. Plus, the crazy thing is it is only 10 minutes from my house, from a private owner, versus a car dealer say 3000 miles away in Florida. Anyhow, just trying to get a feel for what these are worth. Now, if I could find the exact same car in a 2006 S65, black on black, same condition and miles, for roughly same asking price, I would probably choose the S65, as it is so rare. These older Mercedes are gonna be collectors cars sooner than later, so may as well get the rarest and most powerful one if possible? Kinda like buying a 1971 Plymouth Cuda 426 Hemi convertible in nice original shape in say 1984 for about 15k. My buddy Kevin just sold his at a Meccum Auction spring of 2014 for $3,500,000..... Who knows, just look at a 1957 Mercedes Gullwing or 300 roadster...... the SL65 and CL65 cars will be at that level eventually.

I am guessing he means "near" not "possessed by"

Yes I meant by as in my area, plus it's Milwaukee so car has probably seen some salt.

Thanks guys for all the responses. If I can get the above one for say $17k, I will probably do it. If not, will keep looking for a black on black, S55 or S65. As a side note, anyone know of a good place to take said type vehicle to for a pre-purchase inspection, in the greater Seattle area? Even though the one I'm interested in only has 16,000 miles, doesn't mean it couldn't have hidden gremlins just lurking about for the new owner.
Thanks, Joe

You can buy mine Joe with 113k miles for 14k. All the gremlins are addressed and if not will. Blk/blk and modded for performance and cosmetics. Not listed anywhere, just word of mouth if interested.

I know the price seems right for a car with 16,000 miles but if you are going to drive it regularly it's just a ticking time bomb. Being old plastics and other things are going to be more fragile various components will have corrosion or rust from sitting and once being used will cause damage to things.

Its completely up to you, I'm giving my opinion. I was going to buy a cl600 with 48,000 miles for 15,000 dollars but then realized I'd be doing coil packs $2,000, abc pump and fluid $1,000, trans flush $150, brakes $400, and the list goes on. That's doing it all myself.

I ended up up buying something way cheaper with all that stuff taken care of. Yeah it had 3x the mileage but I trust it to go anywhere.

If you saw this guys house and garage, you would understand why it has zero rust or corrosion on anything. 24/7 heated and cooled garage, car has never, ever been out in the rain or snow, or for that matter wet or damp roads. I looked under and around the car, it is cleaner than a brand new 2017 Mercedes under there. I used to take my cars to the same dealer and shop the owner uses, awesome detail shop, but just too expensive for my wallet. Plus, these cars are only new and original perfect condition once. I guess I got spoiled after looking at this one, all others kinda look rough, with normal wear and tear one would expect with a car 14 years old and 100k miles? But hey, on the bright side, a guy could get a bare bones stripped down new Hyundai or a nice used v12 twin turbo or v8 Kompressor Mercedes for about the same price? Pretty easy choice there?

I'm sure it's very clean but with its age it's going to break.. they all do.. the mileage is really not as important as the car.. you can have a car with 100k that's had all the major things done and has thousands in new parts and been taken care of or a car with 20k that has had no work and the owner could have rung it out a few times and it's in worse condition then the first one.. you never know, but as clean as it probably is, knowing these cars and how they seem to break with age and not mileage i would at least put some deep thought into it

Thanks e42amg, this one in Chicago looks pretty good, correct color for my tastes, not too many miles..... Kinda wonder how these Mercedes cars hold up in salty road conditions like Chicago or New England though?

Ok, what do you guys think of this one? Has 117,000 miles though, and not in my preferred colors...... but I can get it for $5,500 bucks. The price sure the heck beats the above black on black one with 16,000 miles, the lowest he will go on that one is $23,900, down from his $25,900 original asking price. Very nice car, but I think he is gonna keep it for a long time at that price.
The cheap one, has a clean car fax, and some records. It is dark blue with a light tan? interior. Is this interior what they call a Designo interior?
