Pump running after motor turned off?

Yesterday after I pulled into the garage and turned the motor off on my 2005 S430 there was an obvious noise of something continuing to run coming from the front passenger side. It ran until I went back and started the motor and when I turned it off the sound was gone. Could this be the door assist vacuum pump and what would cause it to keep running?

Do you have airmatic suspension? The vacuum pump for the interior locks and closing assist is in the trunk. Has this issue come up only once or do you hear it every time you stop the car?

The car does have airmatic suspension. The issue happened only once on this Sunday. I just went out and started the car and it runs normally now. If it's the airmatic pump I'm concerned. About a year ago I took the car to my independent MB service place because the left rear was sagging. They replaced the airmatic strut and when I got home it was sagging. I went back and they replaced the valve and everything was okay after that. Of course they charged me for both (not cheap!) although I think they should have caught the valve. Now I'm worried there is something that wasn't done correctly. Why would the pump continue to run? I presume the pump is on some kind of fuse or circuit breaker.

Ah, Lakewood.. I used to live up there a few years at Wads and 285.. Miss it dearly..
It could just have been coincidence that the pump was running to adjust pressures at the same time you were shutting the car off. I honestly wouldn't worry unless you hear the pump running excessively or every time you shut the car off. There are many things in the vehicle that still stay active for a minute or so after you turn the car off. Again, if you start hearing things often in such cases, then I would start asking questions.
