does anybody do any reprogramming of or sell replacement chips to make the tranny "suck less"?
i am so sick of the little ****er racing to get to 4th gear when i'm doing 25mph around town. it was funny the first few hundred times, but now the joke is getting straight-up old.
doody.

The tranny is adaptive, if you drive like you stole it then maybe this thing won't happen, but shifting early is done to provide economy. Possibly look at Renntech for a software solution, but you could always drive in manual mode or tiptronic, its more involving despite slow shift times and you have better control of ratios.

the tranny is adaptive, but absolutely not enough. the problem is how it behaves at moderate speeds - like sub 40 - it still races to fourth gear at 25. i've talked to others who complain likewise.
believe me, i DO drive it like i stole it ;

I can only recommend manual mode via buttons or tiptronic or switch between S and W modes a couple of times to reset the adaptive characteristics.
Whenever you get stuck in bumper to bumper or are doing sub 40 speeds, move the tiptronic selector to 2/3 so that it won't go above those gears, thats the only solution. The S/CL/E AMG transmission although quicker than regular, is programmed with a 2.65 rear final ratio, this makes progress slightly sluggish. Hope this helps, otherwise I feel this is just the way the car has been programmed.
