Unhappy S55 AMG Acceleration Oddity - bucking/surging

I've had my 2004 S55 AMG for about 4 weeks now, and have been getting to know it in my drives to and from work, as well as working my way through the known issues/maintenance items it needs.

but i've noticed something that i just cant figure out: in 1st gear (manual mode), and in Sport mode i feel a distinct bucking/surging upon moderate acceleration at between 3-4k RPM. It is not occurring during a gear shift, nor does it feel like the supercharger engaging, it almost feels like it's getting fuel cut. No traction control light, and occurs similarly with ESC off. I cant for the life of me figure out what may be the issue, vacuum leak? engine mounts? fuel delivery? some other computer controlled intervention?

it literally feels like the car is gulping for fuel or air, does anyone have some insight or troubleshooting steps i should take? ive not gotten any codes related (i think) to this issue.

First, do the TCU reset procedure (key to ACC position, gas pedal to floor for 10secs, remove key THEN release gas pedal, drive after 5 minutes).

Second, they all do that, with “intermediate” throttle, at least mine always has. The car doesn’t know if you want to go or not go, which is why it’s fine when you either throttle in or out, just not in between.

Try that and report back. Part of it is just learning how to drive the car. It hasn’t happened to me nearly as much as when I first got it. But that’s the issue.

GL — let us know how you make out.

The bucking is pretty common and aftermarket supercharger pulley (83mm or 77m) and tune seems to take care of it on most cars, plus more power.

That’s interesting. I never knew that. Is that just the clutchless pulleys or all aftermarket?

It was the stock pulley that seem to do it the most and never noticed it with any of the fixed or 83mm /77 mm clutch pulleys I ran on my car.

My 2003 S55 AMG did the same thing. My Indy found the front left Motor Mount Bolt SNAPPED allowing the engine to hop up and down from torque. It felt as you described below

OP get it on a hoist and look at engine mounts. They don't last worth a damn so get used to replacing them every year or so. Easy to do once you figure out the secret handshake. Can't miss the goo when they leak. Or they collapse.

Pull the throttle body and unplug the connector to the throttle bypass valve. Clean up the connector with flammable brake cleaner. That connector is usually soaked with oil. Clean up the throttle body and the bypass valve.

I got got to do this with my E-55 and do this for Jay's Brabus K8 when it misbehaves. Does good things for it.

My 2004 E55 did similar thing at low accelleration when driving slow. It was coolant mixed in transmission oil. Had to recondition the transmission and torque converter, which was cheaper than i thought it would be. Cleaned valve body, replaced connector and replaced clutches,
