Voltage regulator replacement
Just putting out a feeler. Wondering if anyone here has replaced the alternator voltage regulator on the M275 engine without taking the alternator out? My lights have a slight flicker and my battery isn't charging fully. I've tracked the problem back to the voltage regulator but don't want to remove the alternator to get it done. Any help or advice is much appreciated.

OP I have yet to encounter an alternator that is not mostly used up by the time it needs a voltage regulator. I did not attempt removal of the regulator before pulling my alternator.

Second. There are lots of threads here that go, "I was sure a new voltage regulator would fix the problem, but after replacing it I discovered I needed a new alternator."

I was really trying to avoid pulling the alternator because it's water cooled and I just did a coolant flush a week ago. I figured I'd give the regulator a try and if not just pull the entire alternator. Car has 50k on it and I was hoping to get a little more out of the alternator.

You will want a hug to go with the purchase of that liquid cooled alternator.

Lol. I haven't given up on it. When I actually looked into it, I did indeed have the air cooled alternator. For some reason on the build sheet for my car it's listed as water cooled. But turns out the problem was a weak consumer battery. Replaced both batteries and haven't had any issues.
