Good day everyone,
I have searched the forum but couldn't find an answer. Why does the the s55 take 7.9qts and the standard s430 and s500 take 8.5qts? Is this correct or is my owners manual wrong? I would figure the AMG being a higher performance vehicle, to have more oil... Just purchased the car and wanted clarification. Thank you friends.

You might be. I thought someone else would have chimed in by now, but probably like me, they never bothered to compare this car to the non-Kompressor cars. There may be something to the sump and engine configuration, with the supercharger taking up space on top which means less space at the bottom for an oil pan. But that's in the weeds for me and I never actually thought about it.

Thanks maw! I suppose you're right about the sump and less room because of the supercharger. Makes sense to me what you stated. I just wanted to be sure that the manual wasn't backwards.

Yeah, to be clear I'm no expert on these matters and like I said I haven't thought much about it. But you can imagine that, smaller oil passages, not wanting a performance car carrying or pumping extra oil around, etc. The AMG cars back then really had not much in common with their "lesser" brethren, although that's changed a bit lately. This wasn't really a M113 with a supercharger stuck on top... forged internals and all kinds of other internal differences that AMG used to advertise, now they keep secret. If I can find anything else in my files I'll post it here. But no, the manual isn't wrong.

I guess I really didn't think the manual was wrong as much as I was shocked it took less oil. I really appreciate the information though. Its kind of ashame that the AMG cars don't seem so exclusive anymore. They make an AMG for just about every model I think. This era of AMG to me seemed the best and far more exclusive than whats offered today. Just my opinion of course. All the best.

Agreed. Tidbit, one went on Cars&Bids today. Nice car, horrible badging. I pointed out the difference in badging because for me, when the badging changed marked the watering down of the brand to me. I have the book "AMG 45, The Story The Cars", as I've been a fan for years. Ours of course has the CORRECT badging...

100% agree that the badging back then was absolutely better. I remember tooling around the AMG site in the mid 2000's, where you could virtually view the factory, cars, engines ect. It was truly special and nothing like the AMG today. I miss how that website was. Ohhh strolling down memory lane lol.
