I have a 2005 S55 AMG with a returning code P0128.
I replaced the thermostat twice now with original MB thermostat. I replaced the temp sensor with a new sensor and repaired some wires on the connection.
The code keeps coming back after a couple of months. The car seem to warm up fine.
I also have a code for Relay for air pump (P2023) The auxiliary air pump was replaced a couple of months ago, P2067 (related to P1856), P240C (probably related to the P1856 next), P1856 (Shift lever position detection failed).
Also, the shift lever moves freely between gears even when the car is off. At some point, we couldn't shift into gear but that is now gone.
So I'm thinking shifter control unit is bad but I'm lost on that Thermostat code that keeps popping up.
Looking for ideas where to start.

Regarding your shifter having issues, here are some videos to guide you. I'd recommend removing the gear selector and testing it with the cover removed to see if the shift solenoid is lifting when the brakes are pressed. Or if the plastic lever is broken.
