2020 S63 Coupe or 2019 S65 Coupe

Sooooo, I currently have a 2019 S63 Coupe but looking to upgrade and I found a 2020 S63 coupe with much lower miles but not all the options I was looking for. However today I came across a 2019 s65 Coupe and I think I already know the answer but guess I'm looking for confirmation from you guys. Which direction would you go in??? Obviously the s65 is more money but basically fully loaded with a few extras.

Nothing beats the V12, the S 65 is a unicorn especially it being the S coupe and since you can afford it, it is a no brainer. You will never see any new vehicle like that again from MB, especially not in coupe form. Get it now and enjoy it!

I have a 2019 S65 Cabriolet and used to have a 2017 S63 Cabriolet. The S65 is in a league of it's own. Although they look similar the RWD S65 is a completely different ride in terms of handling and acceleration and sound and suspension. Don't think MB will be building anything like this again soon or maybe ever!

Okay, thank you for the input. I'm trying to wrap up the deal now but like you said I think it's a no-brainer.

Living in LA S65 would be my choice, actually being stuck in Chicago the S63 with it's superior traction is my only choice.

Maybe I am the only one, but please test drive it before you make a choice!

Regardless of price and status, I find the S63 AMG a much better/balanced car, with - for me at least - several advantages:
- 4 wheel drive, especially the facelifted ones with 4Matic+ are great to drive, also in winter, on mountain roads, etc, much more grip in any situation!
- 9-MCT multi clutch tranmission: much more involving then the auto box with torque convertor in the S65, especially when you like to drive a little more sporty!
- besides Comfort and Sport mode, you have Sport+ and Race mode, which really turns a comfortable cruiser in a beast!
- exhaust noise of the V8 is unbeatable imho!
Even if I could trade in my car for a Maybach S650 (with roughly the same specs as a S65) I would not do it.

And yes, the facelifted S63 (2018 onwards) is really way better then te pre-facelifted ones (having the MCT-7 gearbox, lesser 4Matic, lesser exhaust noise, no Sport+ and Race modes, etc).

Enjoy whatever car it will be!

I live in Southern Cali and actually have both the 2019 S65 coupe and 2017 Maybach S650 Cab (They only made the S650 one year). Since sever weather was not a consideration, I went with the S65. I love everything about it. Nothing against the S63, but the S65 is truly more special. The Maybach S650 was based on the pre-facelifted S65 Cab. It has many cosmetic upgrades. The powertrain (engine and transmission) mapping are similar to the S650 sedan, with only comfort and sport modes. No sport plus. The suspension is slightly softer and the exhaust is quieter than my S65 coupe. It fits that car well since it's an ultra luxury convertible. If you want the V12, 2019 is the last year they were made. The S63s were made all the way to model year 2021, so they are probably easier to come by. (I was told by a source that in 2019 MBZ only sold 41 S65 Coupes. So good luck finding one) Either car is fantastic though. I love mine and have zero interest in the new SL that was just released.

Thank you for your replies.

I do definitely plan on taking it for a test drive but, how bad could it be??
Four-wheel drive is definitely a great feature but I don't drive my S63 now in the winter, I just keep summer tires on it and use my GL 63 When the roads are bad.

I do love the nine speed gearbox on the S63, I also really enjoy the Jekyll and Hyde personality of the S63 because from the push of a button to sport or sport plus it's a completely different vehicle and drive but I find myself not driving fast at all and just cruising around most of the time.

I know the S63 has the performance exhaust button to make it a little louder, not sure if the s65 has that or not.

Here is a picture of the sticker and also some of the car.
I think it is very unique and exactly what I'm looking for.

Of course there is no bad choice here! :-)

The S65 is of course very very smooth with its V12, so if you are more into that, go for it!

The one you posted is also the most black, cruel S65 I have seen........normally they are much more chrome, this one looks very dark and sinister! Enjoy!

In Mayback form yes…in any AMG/ Merc branded V-12, nope.

So if you can afford it as well as the maintenance costs/ wear’n’tear items and or anything that breaks, go for it.

I has the Dinamca steering wheel. Those are very hard to clean once dirty. Make sure it's really clean! Also, magic sky has been known to have problems. Check vehicle's history on this and ask dealer to check it and make sure it works properly.

It was an 8K Mercedes option

Yes, it's a love/hate relationship with the dinamica wheel.
It can get matted and worn quickly but it's an extremely resilient material and can be revived with some product (I think it's called Sonax, but can't remember) and elbow grease.

Magic sky control is one of the best features on my current S63, I'm going to request a history report from the dealer to see if anything sticks out.

Thanks for the heads-up

It is simpler than that, it might get dirty easily but even just soapy water with a soft toothbrush and then wipe dry will do the trick : )
Just make sure to not actually soak it, a damp microfiber cloth will do and then wiping it down with a dry cloth.
That being said, Sonax is indeed a great brand, I love their wheel cleaning products.

Update for everyone

I went ahead and traded in my 2019 S63 for 2019 S65.
I picked up S65 last week and aside from driving it home I haven't spent much time with it because the weather has not been cooperating. I must say, it's definitely two different driving experiences so far. I'm in love with the S65, but I really miss my S63 to the point where I want to get another one. Maybe it's buyer's remorse, but the S63 was a great car. The 9-speed gearbox and crisp shifts seems to be what I miss most. Time will ultimately tell but I have a feeling I'll be buying an S63 soon.

Congrats on picking up the vehicle. Sorry to hear that you have some degree of buyer's remorse, I am still pretty confident that you will enjoy the V12 in the S 65 more, I say give it more time, and since you mentioned the weather wasn't nice, I am pretty sure that also affected your mood, a rainy day for example makes you want to stay at home and just want to do absolutely nothing. The V12 should be in a league of its own.

Congratulations with your new car!

That "two different driving experiences" was exactly my point. the S65 is smooth and perfect, the S63 can be that, but has a more rough, brutal and involving side, that you like or not (I love it!).

Got my windows tinted today, but we're bracing ourselves for a blizzard here in the Northeast. I don't think I'll be driving it for awhile but the car is looking sharp for sure. Can't wait for warmer weather to come back.
Radar detector and laser jammer is next on my list of priorities and then we're ready to hit the road.
