S63 v S550 suspension

S63 AMG Cabrio
Did test drive the (pre-facelift) S63 and S500 (the name in this region, same as S550 I think) right after each other and the S63 (for me) is much more firm, without being too firm, and in Comfort it is great for every day driving, in Sport it is great for faster speeds, high speed curves, etc. Even more important I think was the difference in steering: the S500 was way too loose (for me) and the S63 more direct.
This, in combination with the more direct, faster gear changes, exhaust note (on/off possible), etc made it a no brainer for me to go for the S63 back then. Now I have the second one (facelift) that is even better and even more "spread" between Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and of course Race modes. A car with really multiple characters (comfortable or sporty). The S500/550 is great, but more 1 dimensional (comfortable).

The S550 is mush. It plows and floats. There is no remedy for 217 coupes. Except to go to a amg car.

The S-Coupe is a Grand Tourer, meaning both ultra luxury and sporty. I think the S550 Coupe while grand and luxurious, is not as luxurious as the S63 and nowhere nearly as sporty either. The S63 Coupe costs more and will cost more to maintain, but I think it will be well worth it. (Getting a grand tourer without the ability for some sporty, spirited driving could make you feel like you're missing something).

all amg suspensions are firmer and more performance oriented that normal consumer suspensions. The normal suspensions are designed for non-car enthusiasts. Normal peoples taste. My SL63 had the perf suspension option and it was really harsh. Even for my taste sometimes
