Dealer took my car for a joy ride?

Took it in to a dealer for service A. Had them check a few things under the CPO warranty. Idle surge, seat blower sucks, a wind noise at highway speed, magic sky doesn’t completely clear, and the transmission feels hoppy sometimes. 20k miles 2015 S63.

I filled it up about 3 miles from the dealer at a name brand station and I think that fixed the idle surge (few month old gas). They couldn’t replicate the other things and they told me my car doesn’t have magic sky and then after talking to them they said i just need to hold the button down longer (which I was like “oh ok stupid me”).

Was there a few days and over the 4th of july weekend. Picked it up and the paperwork said they put 10 miles on it but it actually had 20 miles on it. I notice it has 75% gas. Was in a hurry as my phone was getting blown up being late to a jobsite meeting so didn’t have the capacity to put much thought into it.

I have put 77 miles on it and the tank is now at 50% gas. Mostly city and I generally put it in sport mode.

I have ran this car pretty hard all through the blue ridge mountains and around town and do not recall ever achieving a burn off of fuel like they accomplished.

So here is what has me concerned:
  • The car smelled badly of something burning or getting hot the first few times I drove it. Not oil but maybe clutch. To the point i was looking around and under it to see if something plastic was burning on something hot.
  • The transmission has an initial skip when accelerating hard at highway speed like 60-85 mph.
  • I can lightly accelerate from a stop and feel the transmission skip and sometimes get a clunk when it catches (from the rear it feels like).

Without getting tempered what would you suggest I do?

Ehh, I sent a text to the service advisor number they were talking to me at. The same one I told them they used 1/4 tank in 20 miles driving. Let them know the transmission is slipping and has a periodic drivetrain clunk and asked to speak to a manager monday.

Pretty obvious someone took it for a good beating joy ride.

Probably wont hear anything back from the dealer and will file a comp claim for vandalism.

Just drove it and its hoppy. Slipping enough to be annoying.

This place is a joke.
20 miles is perfectly reasonable for your "list of complaints."

Completely, agree. 1/4 tank of gas in 20 miles kinda questionable.

Anyone deal with this or file a claim before i guess is my long story short after venting.

Porsche guy who drives SL63 w/ perf pkg AND perf suspension
alot of times they will leave the car idling, that will burn up gas too.
They leave it running to diagnosis and maybe just to keep it cool as they are in and out of it.

It's definitely possible, has happened millions of times. If your car is not the same as when it went in, fight them on it.

Thats the thing I think the trans was messed up some but it’s annoying now. Maybe they did me a favor.

But I do want to check on the mileage discrepancy on the paperwork. So requested a call from a manager.

As far as the fuel use I actually spend some days idling in a superduty gas or diesel depending on what I jump in. Costs about $20-25 so potentially they left it running all day (like 4-5 gallons I guess). Kinda doubt a manager or someone wouldn’t have walked by and asked them to get back to work instead of sitting in the AC, but I could be wrong.

We are in a downtown area. 1/4 tank of gas within 20 miles, the cops are probably looking for the car

They took it back in and acknowledged it was studdering after riding with a manager.

They did a recalibrate and it smoothed it out. Still feel a little studder that wasn’t there before but better. I guess they tightened up the clutch adjustment.

They also noted the tires were good at over 7 whatever. I never brought that up.

I may ask them for money to replace the transmission as I don’t drive this car much and warranty may not protect it later. I also may want to tune and exhaust it in the near future so that could complicate a warranty claim.

That sucks. I don't think you have any reasonable grounds to request they replace the transmission. why would they do that. If you want anything from them, and you probably deserve something, start by being reasonable.

Be aware that often, in my experience, the tech will let the car idle for a LONG time as they fiddle with it. So it's possibly they didn't drive that many miles. Did your invoice show miles in and miles out? I turn my Mercedes app on so I can get a history of the cars driving while it's out of my hands. I set the speed alert too. It does make you crazy though. Most of the time I have to clean up the cars interior and I never have them wash it, just because I don't want anyone driving it.

You clowns think much too highly of yourselves and your cars. Joy-riding? Give yourself a break. Techs don’t have time or interest in such foolishness. They see Mercedes all day every day and your junk with this list of complaints is just another that is a time-waster. If the transmission is having an issue get it attended to... don’t be looking to blame it on the sap who had the poor fortune to draw your work order. If you got it back with a burning odor perhaps he did you a service in giving it a long overdue Italian Tune-up. You should be doing that yourself with regularity.

Haven’t updated been traveling.

I think we came to an agreement. Haven’t had time to mess with it much. Will update as it progresses.
