Price range, color preference, how many miles would you like it to have, do you want the carbon ceramic brakes, are there any must have options, ........ where are you located? What's your opinion on Carfax? Does it need to be clean or is some minor damage reporting okay? ..... Should I keep going?

Scarce

Be aware that in 2019, the last year sold, they only sold 38 in US. Not sure of 2018 numbers but probably not many. Therefore if you find one for sale you can’t be too picky. They came pretty loaded. There were only a few options not counting color and trim. I have a 2019 and really love it but I will warn everyone that if something necessitates a replacement headlight…..there aren’t any.

Only 38?! Any idea how many were sold globally that year?

I’m told about 230 or so.

Even more rare are the cabriolets from that year. Roughly 20 in the US and 120 worldwide before the V12 was eliminated from the S-Class except for the Maybach 680.

The car has a beautiful stance on the road. The rear view is also very sexy.

Mmmm that may need some verification. Having worked in the auto mfg industry, most automakers require suppliers to have 10, 15, or 20 year service requirements (in other words, they need to continue making the parts for service orders for that many years following the final model year). While the part may not necessarily be in stock on a shelf, you most likely can order it but you'll need to wait for them to manufacture it.

In 2017, I myself ordered a fog light surround bumper insert (goes into the bumper and surrounds the fog light) for my old 2008 SL65. For those that know, the refresh bumper was slightly different than the 05-06, and in general, is also a rare part. I ordered the insert and it eventually came. I can only imagine how pissed off the manufacturer must have been to need to make one, because making these one-off pieces for service is always a huge PITA and is always $ loss.

Well I’m repeating what multiple dealers have told me. I was under the impression that there was a law that manufacturers had to keep parts on hand for a certain amount of time but it turns out there is no such law. I will keep you posted on the resolution of my issue.

I believe manufacturers have to make parts available for 9 years after production ended. So I've been told. But not 100% sure.

It's not a law from what I know of (in the US), and it's not standard time across the board. It's normally within the purchase order agreement between the automaker and the tier 1 supplier. 10 or 15 years is the typical time.

Now, it's definitely true that the automaker can "end" a part number to never be orderable again, but I would hope that is not the case, especially with a German automaker like Daimler. Some dealers also don't like to deal with orders they can't make money on or need to keep open for a long time. Try to see if you can order from one of the online websites (which is normally the service dept of a dealer) and see if it'll go through.

Another option would be to contact the 'Classic Center" in Long Beach CA. I purchased from them a set of horns for a 1991 560-SEL sedan after the local dealers couldn't find the right part numbers. (Just a suggestion)

Not a law. It's a common misconception. https://www.hemmings.com/stories/ask...a%20regulation.

My service advisor was telling me a few months ago how since COVID, MB has discontinued many recent parts. They had a customer who's headunit went bad, and it was a 2017 IIRC, and MB was like yea sorry, we're not making them anymore. Dunno

Mercedes will ceritfy a car back to 2018 currently (6 years from sale) and you can add two years to it, so they would have to maintain parts for the CPO through 9 years (1st year + 2 additional).

Theoretically. The CPO is branded as Mercedes, ie sold by them, but it's not an actual Mercedes product per se, nor is it underwritten by them. So they don't have to continue coverage and leave you and the CPO warranty to duke it out if they wanted to.

Either way, your point is well taken. All I'm saying is, they already are dropping support for vehicles that are much less than 10 years old.

Saw that one. Maybe a scam - hard to know. I’m being told that I can salvage my electronics out of the current light and put them in another Swarovski light and it should work? I’ll keep you posted.
