'14-'15 Help

Hello Guys:
I would like your help and soliciting a few opinions, here. Yes, I am brand new to this site and hopefully the information I can garner through this site will be as relevant and helpful as rennlist. ''16 looks like the year to buy a couple of cars.

I am preparing to take the plunge on a S63 4matic, looking at black/black, probably with the black wheels. I have been doing a lot of research and concerned with reliabilty issues. While it will be a CPO'd vehicle, I am reading about the MCT transmission, limp mode issues anything else I should be concerned about? Consumer reports say the '14 is not as reliable as the '15. Maybe I should wait for the '16's to hit the showroom and pull the trigger later this year on a '15? A friend just got rid of his Benz, due to turbo replacement issues and air ride suspension problems. I am not looking at BMW, or JAG, it is an S63 AMG 4matic, sedan, or maybe not? I am not in a rush to take down this large a purchase, as my plate is pretty full. Nonetheless, it is time to start the investigatory process.

BTW: I am not looking to do any mods to this car. Certain option are important, but no ECU tunes, no wheel mods, no suspension lowering. This is an executive level machine, and I am not a "player" nor a music industry titan, nor looking to imitate one. thankx.

Open to thoughts/suggestions. Jenz and BrklyMark(?) seem to be straight shooters.......would welcome serious feedback/info/intel.

2014 (1st year cars) are almost always problematic. If you can wait for the 2016 cars, I would recommend you wait. Besides, the discounts offered on the 2015s these days might not be enough to justify their "Extra" depreciation due to being a year old once driven off the lot.

Very minimal changes for 16

IIWY I'd try to get a huge discount on a 15

Looking at auto trader there's around 70 still "new" 15s listed nationwide

You'll get laughed at by most, but I'd offer 20% off to take one right now

Doubt you'll get anyone hitting you offer, but you'll see who's willing to discount X amount then no thanks them for now and call back around Jan 25th to take advantage of month end

@Jenz:

Thank you for your guidance. I was really trying to find out about relaibility issues. Consumer reports, for example, says that the car is not highly regarded for reliability? I mean for Christ;s sakes, it's an expensive Mercedes, does this mean the great german engineers can't make a reliable machine. I realize that stuff breaks, but reliabilty is a different issue. Coincidently, the '15s get better reviews.
Also, did I also see in one of your posts you have a dealer connection?

I haven't read the article but all cars have issues, but now that a fix is out for the engine stall on the S63, I wouldn't consider this car on any spectrum of being unreliable or a headache to own

Dealer connection, yes, where do you live

Probably too far to be helpful, and I missed the CPO part in your OP

I'd stick with a 2015, ask for the VMI and confirm via the MB VIN check that there's no open recalls or campaigns (if so, have the dealer do them before you accept it) - especially the engine shutoff campaign

There are only 12 15s nationwide and only 6 with fewer than 10k miles

I suspect all the other high mileage 15s were owner/demo vehicles, which means they likely got beat up a little

Mercedes of Maplewood in MN has a black black black wheels CPO with 16k miles listed for 120k

@ Jenz:

Thank you, as I get closer to pulling the trigger, I might ask for your assistance, again.
