ECO Start Stop Function wont engage

I recently purchased a 2019 s63 4Matic+ sedan and I noticed the eco start stop function wont engage. Specifically, when I turn the car on and it starts in comfort mode, the green indicator light next to the button on the center console is not illuminated. If I press the eco start stop button, the light turns green for an instant and then turns off. I cannot get the indicator light to remain illuminated in any drive mode. As a result, the start stop function does not ever activate.

I am not getting any error messages, fluid levels, gas, etc are al fine. I have tried turning it on after driving for an hour and it still wont turn on.

in my 2019 c43, eco start stop would default to “on” and the indicator light was always illuminated. For the s63, with this function off it also causes issues like the active cylinder management and glide mode not to work.

I'm at a loss. Any ideas?

So you must be one of the few who want to use ECO start/stop in an AMG. I'm assuming you bought this car used, so likely the previous owner was not on the same page as you and deactivated it. There are modules that can be installed to automatically turn it off when starting the vehicle and keep it off. Another popular mod is to disconnect a wire from the battery which is used by the system to monitor the battery charge. Since it can no longer determine the battery charge after disconnecting the wire it will turn off and this particular mod doesn't actually cause an error. I haven't gone to any length to automatically disable mine, but I press the button to turn it off immediately after starting the engine. It's not worth spending money or effort to avoid having to press a button quickly while I'm waiting for the engine rpm to settle at idle anyway, but the "feature" stays off for me. It's pointless along with glide mode, IMO. AMGs are about smiles per gallon, not miles per gallon.

OP.... Be thankful. Start-stop saves minimal fuel for what I find to be a very disconcerting sensation of “the engine just died at a light.”
Doesn’t matter how long I have driven cars equipped with it. Can’t stand it... don’t trust it. Didn’t ask for the feature and don’t want it.

Your car... your choices.

Thanks to you both. I bought the car certified, so I assumed that any mods would have to be reverted back to OEM spec. Maybe that was a poor assumption. I can check the wiring, but I may just bring it in to the dealer and have them deal with it since I’ve only had for a week.

I’ve never heard the phrase “AMGs are about similes per gallon, not miles per gallon” - love it! I definitely drive it in sport + more than comfort, but for a vehicle that cost this much I just want all the available features to function, even if that means pressing the button to turn off eco start stop when I don’t want to use it. I just like to have the option.

The system has to be performing under a certain set of parameters for ECO to engage. Battery level(both) have to be to specification, the inside vs. outside temperature has to be at a certain temperature difference and I think engine temp although I have had mine cut off while still not completely warm.
I usually disable in COMAND and drive in comfort unless I am in for the "smiles per gallon" kind of ride. Hope it helps.

Stop-start rarely happens here in Phoenix where A/C is forever working overtime.... this makes it that much more disconcerting when the engine dies at a light. When I sign up with Peter Stop-Start goes away for good.

Mine is programmed to retain last setting (which is off).
