Has anyone done a teardown? Maybe it's possible to rebuild this battery using commercially available cells.

Hi,

As much as I would like to help, at the moment I still don't have any news, in Italy the battery costs 1710 dollars to be precise, and takes around 2 weeks to be delivered.

I am friend with one of the guys that works at my local Mercedes and when we checked the availability, there's only one directly available at an Honolulu dealer.

The company 123 Systems doesn't have any contact for "civilians" so I guess they don't do business with individuals, perhaps going to their facility in Czech Republic could result in something but for now I can't visit them.

Regards
Francis

I got curious and tore into my trunk this weekend. I was saddened to see this very battery with a 2013 build date on it in my car. It's only a matter of time now....

You may have seen the Benz Ninja's announcement around this topic - if not check the top page of this forum. He was not aware of this issue (and the opportunity to address it) and I will be donating my car to him as a test mule for this conversion to AGM.

Fingers Crossed !!!

Before you spend $2000 on a new battery?

Before you spend $2000 on a new Lithium Ion battery consider this. For that same $2k you could buy the
Benz Ninja suite that includes
A dedicated laptop
Benz communication link and cables
With dealer level programming and diagnostics capabilities
And a new top line AGM Battery.
That's what I did. And couldn't be more happy with the results of no battery warnings, not being held hostage by the stealership for a battery that is UNAVAILABLE and STUPID expensive.

I found this one recently but I plan to use a conventional battery and have Mr Ninja do the coding so it charges correctly. For those that want to save 30lbs though, this might be a viable way forward:

In this boat too. Interesting that we have not heard back from @stars_gatherer about availability from A123 Systems. In a way I'm not surprised; with EV's and their much larger, much more expensive, lithium demands taking center stage, what battery manufacturer is going to bother with this market.

Anyway I'm looking for AGM battery recommendations. From what I can find for specs on the lithium it is 1140 or 1150 CCA. (I'm not going to worry about the aH ratings.)

Update on this: I went with a 760 CCA, 70ah AGM battery. Lithium stocker is 585 CCA and 60ah. @BenzNinja did the code magic. Car is back to full function. I'm completely satisified with this outcome.

I don’t think the aux battery is the battery they are referring to. I think it’s the main lithium battery part number 000-982-69-25 all of the Mercedes dealers in the Tampa Bay Area of Florida either have one in stock or they can get it within a few days by dealer transfer.

Typo.... I mean 000-982-69-25. The starter battery is in stock on most of the parts sites and easy to get. Price is around $1200-1300

Lol, Thanks for the update! I thought maybe you posted the wrong part number. That’s a great price on the battery! Most of the dealers here want 1700.00 Hopefully the battery is starting to come down in price, I’m going to need one soon I’m afraid.

I am grabbing an AGM battery for an S560 from the dealer tomorrow. Mr Ninja will assist with the coding changes so it will work with my 2014 S63. The money I saved over another Lithium battery has paid for the Ninja and the some. I can live with the extra 30lbs and can also sleep easier knowing I don't have a Lithium battery in the car. Even though it's rare, they do occasionally fail in a rather destructive fashion.

No one is going to hear back from A123 systems - https://cen.acs.org/articles/90/i43/...4125%20million.

Wow...
Well Johnson Controls is a big automotive battery maker, maybe they'll jump back into Li small batteries?

That's funny. I just now hung up from speaking with the parts department at Mercedes-Benz Tampa. He apologized but there were "none in the world right now", and was very up front about the fact that even if I ordered one I "would probably wait months and months" for it to arrive. He gave me the latest part number: 000-982-69-25

Agm installed

Did the swap with the Njnja today...no lights, no codes, no issues. Thanks to our local Benz Njnja for this great mod ! Huge money saver and also maybe a bit of a relief to not have a LiOn batt in the car.

For those that have swapped an AGM battery, what brand/model did you use? Did you try the car before coding, what was the experience? What does the coding do? For those who did code, did you have the battery ready in the car before you received the hardware to code or did you do it after? Just looking for a concise way to replace my bad battery. Would love the experience from start to finish of both those who coded and those who didnt (if any).
