My battery is dead. I prepaid for a new one 2 months ago almost $2000.00 from Merceedes A000 982 9008 is the replacement original is A001 982 9008. I have been emailing with no luck on status. Today I get a call from Merceedes (after I filed a complaint) that the replacement battery is on a permanent hold and it will be months before I can get an update. I asked like 2 more and she responded probably much longer! Does anyone know an alternative or work around? Thank you in advance

Found this as possible replacement any thoughts?

You may want to take a look at yours before buying this one. I think the MB LiOn starter batteries have a terminal that plugs into the battery seperate from the + and - that monitors the battery and I do not see this on the picture of the new one. Maybe verify with the vendor that it will work or you get your money back.

Thank you I saw the same thing I don't know how it would affect the car but I am being told Merceedes won't have a battery ETA for many more months. It's like I'm hostage. Don't know what else to do to get the car running again

Anyone know the advertised lifespan of these batteries? I keep seeing 10-20 years, but i think that’s for EV batteries. I don’t know if that makes a difference or not. OP I saw a replacement battery on eBay for 3K! I had no idea about the battery in these cars before I bought mine.

Is this battery used in any other vehicles? Maybe start researching recycling yards.

shipvalet, lifespan from what i've read is 5-10 years depending on whether its a daily driver, once a weekend, once a month, trickle charged or not, etc. I try and trickle charge it with a noco lithum charger on the weekend maybe once or twice a month, currently 3 years on the battery with about 40k or so, trying to extend the life if possible. Keep in mind the car batteries aren't Lithium Ion.

When its time for a replacement, i'll probably be opting for an aftermarket Lithium Phosphate battery (https://powertexbatteries.com/produc...motive-battery). For OP, you may want to consider going with a non-OEM battery option rather than have your car out of service for an undetermined amount of time and have $2,000+ tied up.

For anyone interested, there is some info in this GT thread (also equipped with the same LiPo battery). https://mbworld.org/forums/coupe-roa...-lifespan.html

Do you know if the battery tender keeps both batteries topped up?

I would say yes based on some observations, I don’t have tools to measure the voltage. Noco lithium charger has their little battery level gauge display, and overnight ends up at float. After charging, engine start/stop activates more frequently.

if you are interested here is the charger I got:

The oem battery has a small plug that connects to the battery. Which I was also curious what that plug did when I needed to replace my battery (5yrs old battery). These are lithium ion smart battery from what I was told. From my experience, I got a battery from autozone after giving them my car info. And when I went to replace it. I realized the autozone battery didn’t have that connector for the extra plug. I installed it to see what would happen. And it worked with out any error messages? Later I was afraid something might happen because I didn’t know what that extra plug did, so I just got the oem battery instead? The oem battery is about $1,500. Shouldn’t be $2,000? That a lot!

Top left hand corner with the red circle is that extra connector.

Friday 3-24-23 I got a call from Merceeds and now I am being told they have changed the part number for replacement battery and had gone up in price to $2,600.00 but as a gesture of goodwill I can still have for my prepaid price of $2,000.00 however the soonest I can expect to receive battery is sometime in June of 2023 and I was told there is no other option or work around through Merceedes SMH completely unacceptable

I’ve read that some members, maybe 550 owners, have replaced it with a AGM battery. Supposedly only functionality that was lost was the auto start stop, some report throwing a check engine code, others say no code was thrown.

The start/stop function has a different battery/capacitor that is responsible for that. The S550 uses the normal AGM battery w/out the extra plug that the S63 uses.

Wow! I just did a quick search and most or all of those batteries are no longer available?! Now I’m curious on what is being replaced for that battery now?

My only concern with using AGM battery would be the electrical system charging. Do you know if it would put more stress on the alternator and if the system could handle charging that type of battery?

I did get the part # A 000 982 6925 and it's not available anywhere in the country. There are some replacements on ebay for $3,000.00

Part# 000 982 6925) is now all discontinued? It’s the same part I had my original battery replaced with. That new battery is a tad bit smaller also compared to the battery that came with the car.

A123 systems is the brand that makes them, I contacted them via email to know if it's possible to buy the same exact battery w/o the MB sticker, as soon as I get an answer I'll refer here.

You can see in the attachment, and by a quick comparison with eBay that these match perfectly, look and spec wise.

Looking forward to hear what they say. Good find! And maybe you can ask them what is that extra plug on the battery is used for?

Following this with extreme interest...what an absurd place to try and save 20lbs imho. Now we have a $2k battery replacement instead of a $200 one ? Yikes....
