2019 S560 4Matic
Purchasing Advice

I have a 2019 S560 with only 29k that I love, but really want an AMG. Mine is flawless and is a CPO with a warranty till next March. I found a 2019 with 40k with every option that I want. So my question to other AMG owners is, is it worth the upgrade for an extra $20k and what should I look for as potential expensive repairs in the future.

Good question. I'm about to purchase a 2018 S63, and like you, I have a CPO, my warranty ends in November of this year. I scoured this forum and a couple others to find answers. For me it was difficult to determine what was anecdotal versus common. So much of it depends on how the first owner treated the car and luck of the draw. One of the things I did was review as many Carfax reports as I could for 18-20 S63's, including coupes. You will see patterns emerge around tires and brakes, when oil changes were performed, and when cars had other repairs performed and at what mileage. The car I chose is a one owner car because I think everytime a car changes hands that's room for problems. A low milage car sitting on a dealer lot for many months is not as appealing as a decent to mid mileage car that hasn't been test driven a bunch of times by tire kickers and salespeople. Most of the internal engine damage occurs before a car warms up and/or the parts are fully lubricated, so demonstrations before a car reaches optimal operating temperature is not good. Just my $.02 cents.

Right there is your best reason to grab it IMHO. They're not getting any newer or easier to find.

See if your local dealer will share the VMI with you. It is a more comprehensive service history than what is provided with a Carfax report. I was just at my local MB dealer this morning and asked about the VMI for a car I plan to purchase and it contained several oil changes that weren't shown on the Carfax. One of the other members told me about it when I posted about buying an S63.

So I called the dealer to discuss total pricing and they gave me some BS about an additional $4k for a multi-point inspection, blah blah blah. I hate deceptive people! I want the car, but not that badly, so I may have to expand my search. Are there any reasons to avoid the 2018? I defenitely want the post face lift and realize the later the year is always a safer bet but I may be forced to look for a low mileage 2018 to find the options that I want.

Thanks in advance for any input.

upgrading from a 2019 s560 4matic to a 2018 s63 will feel much different. The car has the same body besides the amg bits but the drive of the car is noticeably different.

I daily (lease not own) a 2019 s560 and own a 2014 s63 amg. If I had more cash on hand, I would've looked for a later model. The difference between my cars might be due to the year gap but I test drove the 2018 s63 and surprisingly, the car has amazing mileage. The costs you'd incur additionally depends on the way you drive too.

IMO, get a PPI done on the car you want by an external auto shop, this will give you some comfortability before purchasing. Dealers are way safer than private buyers BUT dealers will find as much room as possible to charge more. If you do your research and contact private sellers, the ones willing to provide information regarding the vehicle's history are more likely to be honest about any issues. Best of luck, I look forward to seeing it whenever the time comes to purchase. Dont make the mistake I did... rushing to purchase... I could have had a 2017 s63 with lower mileage right now if I had waited a month. But I dont regret it, I love my car so much.

What part of the country are you in, and are you willing to buy from distance?

I am in St. Louis and am willing to buy remotely and expect that. It’s highly unlikely I would find something in my area with the options and mileage I’m looking for.

OP did you buy one? If not be sure to drive an S65. I also suggest finding one with Carbon Ceramic brakes. They last and last... with virtually no dust + big reduction in unsprung weight at each corner of the car. Park Place in Bellevue Washington has one in white with CCB. Low miles and very nice. They have had it a year and are ready to make a deal. I would have it but white is not my color.
