How much time do I have
I'm getting the check rear brake pad wear warning on the dash, and my brake warning light stays on as of a couple days ago. How much time/mileage can I drive before I have to change them out? I'm on jury duty so my time is VERY limited. And even worse, I just got hacked so all my CC's are locked and I'm, trying to avoid any online purchases. My idea was to change out the rotors with the Carbon ceramic "type" from FCP Euro, and definitely install the Z23 pads. If I can drive another 500 miles like this I'll be fine. But if I need to do something within 50 miles then I'll have to send it to the indy and get the OEM suff done. Any thoughts?
Oh, 2018 S63 sedan with 42K on the odometer. According to VMI, rear pads were changed at 26K miles in January of 2021.

Brake pads when new have around 10 millimeters and the sensor trips around 2-3 millimeters . So with a bit of math you can figure out what the remaining thickness translates to based on how many miles it took to wear them down to this point. Keep in mind, though, that at this point the wear accelerates and they don't dissipate heat very well anymore. Wouldn't recommend doing a bunch of emergency stops, but just driving around normally, 500 miles shouldn't be an issue.

Drive gently and you will be fine. Even once they reach metal on metal its not like they are going to explode or anything. That happens a few weeks later ...had a friend who used to push his luck ...hard.

Should be fine for a thousand miles or so. Carbon Ceramic rotors are going to cost you around 12-15K just for rotors and I think you need special pads for them, not the Z23 pads. I would go with the Brembo or Girodisc 2 piece steel units with Z23 Pads in the rear and Z26 pads up front. I am running those pads now on stock rotors and they are awesome with zero dust.

The idea was to go with the upgraded rotors from FCP that you posted on the forum about a year ago, and go with the Z23 pads.

Don't lose sleep about it Carlos.....
Brake rotors will have a dish from wear via the pads. The lip at the edge of the rotor chewed into the pad and got the wear sensor. Normal operation.
Typical dish in the rotor is 2-3mm. Typically the sensor is 3mm or more to metal. 2-3mm+3mm. Your car is giving you plenty warning.
Bummer about dealing with thieves. Hate that.
