Greetings Barry, Im hoping your custom 1 off build on your beautiful AMG S63 is coming along or is close to being finished.

As a performance enthusiest I understand that custom builds take time and from my obersavation this one is extreme.

My question is is there any updates or the final date of delivery and are you concerned with the length of time ( 13 months ) at this point that it has taken for the completion.

SIDE NOTE: Im VERY confident that the shop you chose youve vetted and researched before choosing them for this project.

Howdy people. Got another update. Transmission is sorted out. Vehicle is back to running again. They are trying to get it back over to the dyno for tuning. Then probably a quality control one last time, and off to home the car comes. Lol. Hoping they get it all finalized before the middle of March. That's when cars and coffee starts here. I am very excited to see the final product. Hear it, drive it. I really miss the car. It is so fun to drive. I feel it will be a real hoot to drive now. I promise to post any more information and pictures I get.

I haven't received the final bill yet. Lol. On most builds, you do have to pay funds up front. What I did was calculate a rough estimate and sent them a check for the total amount I felt all this would be. I just texted them earlier today regarding possible where we are at, with tuning, and the final bill. I haven't heard back yet. I am hoping to have the car back by the middle of March, as that is when Cars and Coffee starts here where I live. I know this has taken quite a while and there have been set backs. However in the long run, I feel this will be well worth it and one amazing S class. The Spool Performance/Eurocharged of Houston shops know how rare it is for an S class owner to take an S class this far. I don't plan on selling the car. So I really don't care how much the build is. You don't do this to make money on the car. I am doing this, because I love the car and I want to have even more fun with it, plus surprise people.

That is awesome. I just bought a 2017 s63 amg. now that I have my dream car, my next goal is to do exactly what you're doing. I'm curious how much it ends up being.
When it's done post some good videos - I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see it.

I plan and will post everything I have. Whether good or bad. However, I don't foresee any bad. I have seen some posts that people have made about modifying these cars, and then left everyone hanging. I wont do that. This is a full blown sleeved engine build and transmission build for a 2016 S63 sedan. I didn't want the car butchered up. I wanted it to look stock, unless the hood is opened of course. No meth injection, due to butchering the car up to run extra lines and wiring. I think there are many parts that I wanted, however, they are not made for an S class, unfortunately. In the future more stuff may become available, however as of right now, there is not a ton of parts to choose from for an S class. I just want everything solid and last. I tried to choose the very best parts available. No cutting corners. Its an S class after all. Lol. I think many people are really going to freak out at this vehicle when completed. The shop said they had some surprises for me, so I don't really know what that entails. They have also said they had some one off parts made, however, I don't know what that entails either. Hoping to hear from them tomorrow at some point.

I was contacted by Spool Performance/Eurocharged of Houston. Dyno tuning to start and be completed Monday February 23, 2026. Excited. I know everything will be great and some impressive numbers, until more parts become available or made for this platform. At least the S class. Since many parts are not interchangeable with this model. I do realize not many people modify an S class sedan.

Which is a shame Barry. We can’t possibly be the only ones who enjoy a sleeper that will embarrass ‘supercars.’

I don’t make the power that Barry is going to make, but if anyone appreciates a sleeper it’s me. With a stage 2 tune and cat-less down pipes I’ve embarrassed plenty of people. It’s one of my favorite things about the car…….not many people really know what it’s capable of and it looks like a land yacht. I’ve heard it so many times…..”damn, what is that? What motor is in there? Holy sh*t that thing is fing fast, WTF?? How did you beat me?”, etc, etc. I’ve had guys tell me “you go ahead…leave whenever you want, I’ll catch ya”. After launching with launch control and putting 2-3 car lengths on ‘em there’s no catching me.

My W220 S65 that went 11.53@123 stock on DR’s had a vanity plate that read “SLEEPR”….and I got asked more than 3 times over the years if I sold mattresses for a living . Then i changed it to “SUB-12S” meaning less than 12 secs. Then I heard “you got 12 inch subwoofers in the trunk bro??” LOL. After explaining it, people thought I was full of sh*t…and weird. Who rolls around in an S65 with vanity plates about the ET it’s capable of?? Me.

Ha! Love the whole sleeper mentality, I do! …..

Spool Performance/Eurocharged of Houston are still sorting out the TCM program and drivability of the vehicle. Hoping to hear some news this week. They are doing there very best to get things wrapped up and the vehicle back to me. There has been so much put into this very special build.

What are they running into for drivability issues?

If I understood them correctly they are looking into the shift quality. They said the shifts are very hard. That's really all I have for now. May here from them this week. We text each other periodically.

Transmission built using clutches with more ‘bite?’ More clutch plates per clutch pack? That is what we did with old school automatics decades ago.

I imagine there is only so much range for adaptations.

Here’s hoping they get it figured out soon.

Quick update. Spool Performance/Eurocharged of Houston has moved into a huge facility. They let me know the car was moved and all is good. They are getting organized in the new facility and will get back on the project as soon as possible. Hoping all comes together very soon. Bean a long journey for this. But will be worth the wait.

Going on 18 months. This seems crazy, at this point you have to question the competency of Spool Performance. Either they do not care and this is a project they tinker with when they are bored, or they have realized that they will never recoup the cost of what they have started and are in over their heads on this one. Lets assume they spend 2 hours a week on this project, that is over 21K in labor at $150.00 an hour, probably on the light side labor wise, and then parts and machine shop time. This could be a 40-50K build, or basically what the car is worth. This is not a criticism but rather just an observation. I hope for your sake Barry that they are not just stringing you along and that you get your car back at some point with the performance they have promised.

Barry i have to admit at this point after 18 months i think your being taken advantage of and your meekness and patience has been noticed to string you along. Something is not adding up with this situation and my personnel advice is that you demand your vehicle be completed asap. We all can agree that your build is a one off and is "somewhat" pioneering but in reality NOT for a established organization that is directly familiar with the AMG platform.

You were kind enough to bring us on your journey on this public forum for the progress and build and i myself was excited for you and the outcome and even considering building my W222 S63 but after watching and following your story i would NEVER do it.

My sincere humble opinion Barry ...good luck with everything.

I agree the build hasn't been smooth. Plus having parts made, plus a learning curve. I usually contact them on Sundays or Mondays, to get the scoop. They usually reply back Monday or Tuesday and sometimes send pictures or videos. Just didn't want to keep everyone hanging. Some people have done huge builds and then disappeared off the forums. I don't know why they would leave everyone hanging. Will definitely not keep people hanging. There will be an end. I promise. Lol.
