Need Advice Re Break Pad And Rotor Replacement.

i got my B service from the dealer the other day. they recommended to replace my front break pads (they say i have less than 30%) and the rotors (they say are below minimum specs). i declined. my car is a an 05' C320 Sports Sedan i bought brand new sept of 2004. i have approx 27k miles on it. i'm not sure if i really do need them done, the break pads i may have changed, but the rotors i'm not sure.

any advice/suggestions will be appreciated? thanks.

i cant fathom why your rotors would be out of spec already at only 27k miles. the brake pads are very possible, but you still have a BIT of time before you need to change them. are you heavy on the brakes, or brake late for stops?

my experience with german cars has been the pads need to be replaced, the rotors only have 25-50% left.... they do this for performance ( lower rotating weights ) and therefore when you change pads, you just change rotors.

Mine are 30k miles, they also recommended a pad change. I can see some grooves in the rear but they're nowhere close to being worn through to be fins. Maybe 0.5-1mm of wear on the rotor? How much wear is considered "out of spec"?

Because of the more abrasive non-asbestos pads used today ,it is normal that discs/rotors should need to be changed along with every second set of brake pads; on average at about 60,000 miles, but the only way to be sure is to check the thickness with a micrometer as there is only a 2.6mm total wear allowance (front) before replacement, so if you can feel a lip of much more than a millimeter the disc/rotor is probably scrap.
