W211 Job well done
Got into an accident on the way to my son's birthday party. Was making a left and an on coming Pointiac Granda AM slammed into me. My 6 year old was in the rear passenger side seat right where the car hit us. The car held up perfectly.
The first thing my son said (albeit shaking considerably from what just happened) was "are we still going to the birthday party". I jus had to laugh and thank god we are all right. Both air bags, side curtain and side door hit him at full speed. What a champ...
I was able to drive it home, but my seat belt didnt work. I was just around the corner though.
Anybody got a ballpark on the amount the damage is (just curious what the insurance will be paying).

Great Job for the E.
It is really good that the car protected you and especially your son so well.
This is exactly why I only want to own MBs. The E was recently rated as the safest car in the world based on actual accident data.

Scary but glad you both are OK. The car is pretty seriously damaged so you can rest assured that it will be expensive but the impact was high so your frame is probably OK meaning no total.
Just curious, did the Pontiac run a light or stop sign or did you pull out?

As always it is amazing how well a Mercedes holds up in a real-world accident. What is realy eriee is that the glass doesn't even break or crack. You can be assured though with damage like that it is going to be breathtakingly expensive to fix.

Wow, glad all of you came out OK with no serious injuries. Also, glad to see how well the MB held up and protected all the occupants. From the looks of the damage done to your car, I will not be surprised if your insurance will total it and you will end up with a brand new E.....how about that.

wow... good to hear that everyone is ok. This is the same reason why I chose to get an MB as well, and with a child coming our way, I'm glad we decided on the E.
If your car is less than a yr old, and if there is a good amount of chassis/frame damage, then your insurance may total it out... if you went with a larger insurance company, some will actually pay out the entire purchase amount of the car, so you don't get screwed with 1st yr depreciation losses.

Glad to hear that you and your son are allright. It is amazing to see what damage can be done to these cars and have the passengers come out unscathed. This is what I pay the extra $ for when I buy Benz.

Car held up nicely. But I'm suprise that w/ your son in the back seat, you would make a left turn like that to have a GrandAm slam into you.
Car safety can only protect us to certain extend, beyond that (said an F150 instead of the Pontiac), one would have regret big time.

Got the quote today from the body shop. I was suprised to find out it is only $12k in damage. I guess the pillar took most of force and the frame was not damaged. At least that is what I was told. I am going to go down the the shop and see. They are taking it apart right now. I have been assured when I get the vehicle back it will perform the same if I were to get hit on the same side. If it cant be brought to the orginal car standard then it will be replaced (fat chance that will happen)
As for making left turns, I usually have my son behind me but he was complaiing about the leg room. So i moved him over. Unfortunately most peoples instinct is to turn themselves away from danger. Had I had time to think I would have turn myself into the car.
I am hoping to get pictures of the grand am... want to wait for insurance to figure things out first.

I would suggest looking into "diminished value" claim against the other driver's insurance company. The car may "look like it did" and "drive like it did" but it will be worth somewhat less. Any appraiser WILL be able tell it has been repaired even if you can't.

You should seriosly look into what Jim Purdy said, I took my car to the dealer for an oil change, the guy asked me how hard did i hit the car....he knew some how the hood front bumber and the lights were all new but he still was able to tell they were replaced and were'nt the original, i for one wasn't even able to tell the difference...and it happened in another city abt 6 mnths ago..I'm glad to hear you and your child were all right
