AMG GT63 Sedan - On the Chopping Block?
I just saw this article on the CarBuzz website. An interview with Ola Kallenius suggests the GT sedan may be discontinued. This is way too early for April fools and I hope it doesn't happen.

Would be interesting if they discontinued both the CLS and the GT 4 door. The CLS is the car that started the 4 door "coupe" segment. I guess they are just too expensive compared to the plain E class?
Curious what would happen to the value of our cars if they do get discontinued.

Don’t think the GT 4 door will be discontinued as it is the basis of the AMG electrification.
Hybrid, then EV.
Also, it sounds bad but Moers drives AMG development, not Mercedes and AMG seems to have become the prominent tech developer of MB. Also the biggest profit center for MB.
Mercedes drives all the autonomous driving/safety initiatives I am told.

Well, I can think of arguments going for/against the GT 4 Door vs the CLS. It makes sense if MB only wants to keep one of these. They have some overlap in terms of target market of 4-door coupes. The CLS carries more volume and is more affordable, but the GT 4 Door has more of a halo image and better differentiation from the E class. I guess what they could do is release the GT 43 in the US and hit a lower price point, but it's tough for me to see how much less expensive such a car would be. Part of the draw of the GT 4Door is that they don't have an inexpensive trim. I guess if the GT 43 started at $80k, that would be a somwhat "inexpensive" model. But how are they going to justify that taking out a electric supercharger saves them $20k.

Well, this is interesting, the sales of the CLS has slowed considerably in the past couple of years, to less than 1000 units per year. At one point they sold over 14,000 units of the CLS a year. I guess all these 4-door coupe cars from BMW and Audi have seriously eroded their market share. The GT 4 Door in comparison is selling about 200-300 a month. Now I see more of a case of the CLS going away, but maybe not the AMG GT 4 Door?
Edit: I'm thinking that the GLC Coupe and GLE Coupe has also eroded the CLS sales, while the CLA is almost like a smaller version of the CLS.

Okay, looks like CLS and GT 4Door will be merged, not canceled.

I am not sure how they are going to do that... One of the draws of the GT 4-Door is that it's an AMG-Only product, just like the 2-door GT. There is no GT 350/450 putting around. Bringing the GT43 over to the US sounds more and more likely now.

Its not selling well if anything prob as worse S63 coupe. The price point is its biggest flaw considering at that price range you can get far better in terms of competition, depreciation and leases. Not sure what Benz was thinking with this car but its not been selling well at all.

Are you talking about the GT 4 Door or CLS? I always thought it was pretty obvious that the GT 4 Door was more of a competition for the likes of Panamera rather than other "super sedans" like the M5 and the S7. I know many people would differ with me, and I am a fan of the BMW M cars, but I never cross shopped the M5 or S7.
