Oil Leak on 2019 GT63S – OVS & RMS Concern at 72K Miles
I recently purchased a 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT63 S with around 72,000 miles on it. I’m the second owner, the car was parked for about 7 months before I bought it, and unfortunately the warranty has already expired. I don’t know how the previous owner used or maintained the car.
Shortly after driving it for the first time, I took it for an oil change and noticed a few drops of oil near the rear of the engine, between the engine and transmission. I suspect a rear main seal (RMS) failure, possibly caused by oil vapor separator (OVS) failure and crankcase overpressure — which seems to be a known issue on M177 LS2 engines.
My key questions:
- Does replacing the oil vapor separators (OVS) on the GT63 S require engine removal, or can it be done with the engine in place (transmission-out only)?
- Has anyone done this job on a GT63 or similar platform and can share a guide or video showing how to access and replace the OVS?
- Regarding Catch Can installation:
- Is there a known kit or part number compatible with the GT63 S?
- Where can I purchase a reliable kit?
- Any instructions or threads showing a clean install method?
- Is there a known kit or part number compatible with the GT63 S?
- Can the problem return even after repair? I’ve read some cases where it has happened again.
Also see my thread, guys posted about the AMG W213 Wagon being a good indicator of similar issues we may have in the future.
Good luck and please post updates.
