I'm looking at upgrade packages for my CLS63 (OK this is the E63 forum but its the same car under the skin). The Kleeman K4 or the AMS turbo upgrade packages are looking great but I see that Weistec has two turbo upgrades with the bigger of the two (W4) using totally new turbos. They claim 1000+hp with that package! Has anyone got this and how does it drive? Is there bad turbo lag?
I emailed Weistec and this is looking promising. It's due out in 2-3 months and comes with a new carbon fiber air intake system. They estimate 770-800 whp on pump gas, that's over 900 crank. The >1000hp figure is for race gas. Be warned, it's not cheap though.
Well when you consider a tune plus down pipe around $3200(tuner dependent) and you get about 100hp and 150tq? Look how much more you have to pay for another 100hp....
It's not too bad when you consider that the higher the power figure you chase inevitably the higher the $/hp. And this package, if they are being honest, will take you very far in the power stakes.

I got to say that $3200 is good value for a tune and basic downpipes. But I think you will be getting way more than an extra 100hp with this package. The AMS Alpha 7 package is tune + basic downpipes + exhaust and for $9k you get around 700 crank hp. The Kleemann K2 is a tune + basic downpipes and for Euro 2540 (around US$2760) it also gives around 700 crank hp.
If you take the middle of Weistec's claim this W4 package will do 785 wheel hp which is around 924 crank hp allowing for 15% drivetrain loss.... so it's over 200hp more. Always the last few hp are the most expensive....
PS I'd be tempted but so far they have not disclosed either a torque figure or a dyno chart, it seems they are still fine tuning the package before they release all the info.
Another upside to this package is that you do not need to send in your turbos for modification so you can buy the kit first then go to the mechanic and get it all fitted; you would only need to send in the ECU for the tune which I believe is fast turn around.

take a look at that from different point of view , stock block capable 850 awhp or close to that # , E85 will allow to do so with W4 kit , so we talking 1000 hp vs 700 hp , more than that , if you want build the motor you can still use same set up , add fueling and you at 1200 hp or so with more boost .

i dont know where youre getting your downpipes, or your figures from. but a tune alone is $3000 (ams, renntech, weistec)
good quality downpipes/turbopipes are another $4-5000
but you already have kleemann K4 right? wouldnt the power pickup be very little going to weistec w4 (850 hp K4 vs 900 hp W4) ? 50 chp pickup for $20,000 ? or do you have another M157 car that you plan to do the W4 on ?
Yes, It is true I have Kleemann K4 package and I am pretty satisfied with it. I have 2 cars CLS63 and E63. I blew up one of the engines in search of cheap tuning from different suppliers. That was my first M157 ) My suggestion and advice: always go with one tuner for everything.
I was really curious about the W4 kit so I gave it a try. I have rebuilt one of the engines with the following setup:
Darton MID Sleeves
Wiseco Forged Pistons
Crower Rods
ARP Studs and Rod Bolts
Porting And Polishing of Headers
Some pictures attached...
Target: 1000+ HP
ARP Main Studs
Darton MID Sleeves
Wiseco Forged Pistons
Set of Wiseco Forged Pistons

Ported Headers
Polished Headers

New Gaskets, O-Rings, etc...
E63 AMG on CLK lightweight forged wheels and Hoosier DRs (Branded with Sponsor stickers)
E63 AMG This years Sema Drag Racing Finals at Rustavi International Motorpark, Georgia
CLS63 on MOMO 18 Inch Wheels and Hoosier DRs
Kleemann Custom Intake
Kleemann K4 - 98 RON Fuel (This is US93 Octane)
Darton MID Sleeves
Kleemann K4
Sleeved and Honed Block M157
Crower Rods & ARP Fasteners
Wiseco Forged Pistons
ARP Bolts
and finally my dreamed W4 kit ordered in October 2015 )
Goletiani- That's an amazing build. Can you share some of the specs on the bottom end components. Were the rods and pistons custom, or do you have part numbers you can share? Same for the Darton sleeves, custom or part number available?
And at the end of the day, the stronger better bottom end that exceeds the limits of nano/twin arc spray etc etc etc is Darton sleeves, good forged pistons and connecting rods.
No different from the old Murican/domestic engine builds
AMS Alpha 9 is advertised at 878whp and that was all I needed. More than enough for a DD.
