S Class 4 door coupe'
How many here would choose this over standard S Class?
Reference the original post, I'd love a sporty S Class 4 door coupe'. All for it.

Here is a pic of a long version of the E on which the Maybach E would be based on. Both are geared towards China. The long E is build in China as well.

I looked at an S coupe, but getting out of the back seat was ridiculous (and we do go out with others from time to time).

I never liked the interior design direction of the current generation E Class but they seem to be building a more refined cabin for the next generation E Class.
Also the Intelligent Drive technology of the 2017 E Class seems to be more advanced than what is presently available with the S Class.
Is the S Class going to be updated too?
I think a 4-dr S Coupe would parasitize sales of the successful CLS; at the same time, existence of the lower cost CLS will limit sales potential of any more costly 4-dr S Coupe. I'm not even considering the CLA, which falls into a totally different market segment.
The CLS is soon due for a full redesign. Rather than introduce two 4-dr coupe models that will be the primary competition for each other, it would make a lot of sense to consolidate into one new offering. In other words, reposition a single "4 door coupe" away from the E towards the S class. Build it on the S class frame. Maybe maintain the 'pillar-less' coupe legacy by lengthening the existing 217 wheelbase and adding rear suicide doors ? If smaller engines were offered compared to the W222/C217, like in the current CLS class, and some standard S class equipment were shifted into option packages, the price could easily fall between the current CLS and S class models.
The only cars competing with a such a vehicle would be the Porsche Panamera and BMW Gran Coupe. Mercedes' offerings just kill them on the exterior (CLS) and interior (S) design. Based on what I see with the '17 P car models, their interiors won't be in the same league as the S class anytime soon; to me, the S class interiors compete only with Bentley and Rolls. I know the BMW 6 is up for a refresh, but they are more competitive with the E/CLS than S offerings.
