My truck died so I went to a dealership to look at a new, fancy, lifted diesel. I test drove that beast and wasn't too thrilled with it. So I told the salesperson that I wanted to test drive their black C63. That garnered a puzzled look due to the 180 I pulled on him.
Fast forward a week and a half and I now have that black C63 AMG. The car is in great shape, but the rear tires are shot (not surprising from what I've been reading on these forums).
The car has the stock 18 inch rims, covered in correctly sized (although lower speed rated) Toyo tires. My goal with this car is to have something fancy yet fun. Something serious enough to pick up business clients from the airport without looking like I'm a weekend racer. But I *do* want to have some fun on the twisties after I get used to driving this beast.
So I thought about finding some 19 inch, factory AMG rims and getting new tires, but if I'm getting new rims, maybe I can get something that can facilitate wider tires. Then after much playing around on tiresize.com, and reading posts on this formum, my head is spinning.
What I would like is advice on how I can go about getting wider tires on my car (by staying with my 18 inch wheels or by buying new ones (19 inch or larger maybe), but without having to install a wide-body kit or lower my car. If I did get new wheels I would prefer to get OEM AMG wheels (to keep that serious look).
This is a realm I know nothing about as I'm just finding out now that wheels have offsets and there is some leeway in the width of tires one can put onto the same wheel.
So any help or warm welcome you can provide a new member of the club would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats! Im surprised the dealership didnt put new tires when they sold the car! You will find a lot of different opinions on the forum regarding wheel/tire setups, but I guess it all depends on your use and preference. On the stock 18s you have on now, you can go to 275 without issues or rubbing etc.

Yeah, the place I got it from is a scummy dealership. I would never recommend buying from them (I don't trust them). After I had the car inspected my *my* mechanic, I opted to make all of the repairs myself because I didn't trust the dealership to do right by me. They just happened to have the truck / car I was interested in, and I've already taken their dealer emblem off the back of my car.

Yeah, that is what I read from the FAQ and other forum posts and since I think I've decided I wanted to stay as stock as possible, the *real* last question I have (I think) is that I was curious as to the difference in sportiness / ride quality was from from my stock 18s to the stock 19s (which I'm considering purchasing).
I know the 19s will be sportier, but will the ride quality be adversely affected (to the same degree as the increase in sportiness)? I know I could just buy them and find out, but if I could find out without having to find and buy the 19 inch wheels then I'll be that much closer to making other improvements I've already got my eyes on.
Im in your same boat, I want 19's but as a daily driver, 80+ miles a day I enjoy the ride. Curious to what others have to say after going from an 18 to a 19. If it is a noticeable increase in harshness I think I'll opt out.

The car already rides rough due to what it is, a sports car. 18's will usually always ride a bit smoother than 19's but, if you make the change, it's not something that you will greatly notice. Going 20's is completely different lol.
Even if you live in a place with crappy roads, potholes, chunks missing, you can get some tires with extra sidewall to help some. Down here, Kansas/Missouri roads are not the best, but 19's fare pretty well and they are not annoying.
congratulations!
as some mentioned, ill stick to the oe wheels and it seems thats the way you want to go anyways. looks perfect on the pfl. (bias here). maybe get a spacer for the rear to make it look more aggressive.
Congrats on your new ride. I have the OEM 19's on my car and it drives great. It definitely feels firm and planted on the road, but it is definitely not all all uncomfortable.

U wont notice any ddifference in ride comfort going to 19 wheels and smaller profile.
I am running 19 renn rs-51 wheels staggered setup 245/35/19 and 275/30/19s in rear. The offset is perfect and fills wheel wells nicely on my 2010 in stock height.
I also have black 2010 and went with silver machined wheels for a stock clean look.

I suspected that may be the case, so I was thinking of *not* buying 19 inch wheels when I'm happy with the 18s I already have. And the rear tires are shot, but the fronts look fine, so I was thinking of just buying some cheaper tires to use as I learn to become one with my C63.
Later as I burn through the rears, I may be ready to replace the fronts and can then upgrade to nicer tires. I live in the DFW, Texas area, and suspect that I don't need to get the softest tires to still stick the road most months of the year.
Thank you everybody for the welcome. I'm excited to get my car out on some twisties after I get some new rear rubber.
285/30/18's fit fine on the rear with stock tires, at least MPSS's do
tiresize.com shows that the 285/30/18 is 1.2 inches wider than the 255/35/18. Would there be any issues with performance or safety stuffing the extra width into my stock rims?
And I've seen quite a bit about what rear tires one can "upgrade" to, but I don't see much mention about the front tires? Would there be any benefit to moving from 235/40/18 to something like 265/35/18?

Me too. Would not be allowed to certify it in Ontario or BC if the tires were shot.
Is this car equipped with a staggered set up or same size wheels and tire on BA?
