I bought a CPO in September 2012. On Feb 25, 2014 the battery was replaced as it was failing.

I complained to the dealer. With a little arm twisting, a new one was installed for $165 installed, no labor charge.

Fast forward to today, Dec 17, 2016. After doing yet another recall on my car (SRS) the battery failed the stress test.

The fan had been sporadically revving like a turbine for the past three weeks. I decided to see if this might be the cause of this gremlin. So far so good.

So after two replacements and not even 4 years, Mercedes Batteries seem to suck. I called the dealer and they only warranty for two years.

I decided to go with Exide Edge FP-AGML4/94R. Here's what I got.

Cost to install including tax was $228.84. Home depot charges $235.00.

Q. Has anyone used this brand?

My OEM battery has been in the car for 9 years,so I have no complaints. It is a Varta AGM 70 amp hours, made in Germany .

I cannot see you going wrong with your choice.

I would however make sure your charging system is operating as it should.

Indeed it seems like a safe choice for a battery, but the batteries Mercedes uses do not suck. There is something going on with your car in particular.

I don't know the brand. I called him back and there were no markings. All he could find was original Mercedes on it

Spoke with the SA and he says it's not that unusual. They have new cars with batteries that fail in two years. They want to do a parasitic test for $178.

How long have you had the battery in your car for?

My stock MB battery lasted 6 years. I just replaced with a Bosch AGM battery from pep boys. Purchased online and picked up in the store. Took me 5 min to install. $165 and 4 years replacement.

I think these SAs are full of hot air. At least I did not pay dealer price. Jeez.

The battery on my 2008 just gave up the ghost so 8 years is pretty good I think. I bought a Northstar battery made by Odyssey for a replacement. Kind of pricey but lots of power. Installed myself in about 5 minutes.


Like most routine maintenance procedures on this car, I am always surprised how easy they are to do.

If you have AAA you can have them run the test for you. Two weeks ago my car would not start I called AAA and they tested the battery, the charging system and also told me if there was anything running that would drain the battery. The batteries cold cranking power was low and it was a five year old battery. Cost for the test zero. I had them jump start me and went to the dealer and purchased a new battery $160 and I installed myself.

Trust me when I say having this done on a star system is leaps and bounds better. There are many things that stay on in the car for 1 -15 min after the key is removed and door is shut. Star can pinpoint thing that should not be on.

My car is 3.5 years on the stock battery. Battery in my W203 lasted 7. Battery in my W211 was 6.

Just got the car back from the dealer. Evidently a sensor is connected to the negative battery cable regulating how much the battery is charged for fuel economy. They found no drain issues. Internally Benz replaced this part with another. I guess that's benz speak for we have a quality issue with this part.

They replaced with part no. 000-905-27-02 A BATTERY SENSOR

Driving the car feels better. It seems more responsive. cranking seems better too.

Could someone tell me what BMS means ?.

Was the battery sensor not allowing the alternator to charge the battery?

My understanding is that it was not working correctly. Therefore, it was limiting much more the frequency of when to be charged.

Just spoke with the mechanic and he says the previous sensor did not recognize city driving so it was not charging. Updated part does.

That's a great price. I suspected I was not getting much of a deal, however, I was in a hurry and did not want to have to deal with disposal of the old. Will pep boys take the old one?

Holy moley. 9 years?! Is it really hot or cold where you live? I typically replace batteries after 5 years. Is this necessary on the W204?

It is a mild temperate climate on the coast. No ice/snow/frost . A cold day in winter is 15'C & a hot one in summer is 35'C.

The car has only done 98,000 km.

A new Varta is approaching A$400 so I am glad I do not have to buy every 5 years. May did the death adder out of my pocket next year & buy a new one
