Wanted to ask if anyone else has encountered the dreaded Command Dial / Wheel failure that is so well documented in the C Class community. (see link below)
If so - and since it is so prolific, is there any hope of MB replacing this in an out of warranty vehicle? Recall? Service bulletin of some kind? Seems like this part will fail every 4 years like clockwork.
It's weird to hear about this on anything else than the C class. What's funny is, the command knob problem dosent show up in consumer reports, nor do people bring it up on consumer reviews on edmunds, kbb, cars.com ect...
The part came in and it is quality, fits perfectly and most importantly I got my scroll function back!.
notes:
There are 10 screws on the back, some of then recessed deep and I couldn't get to it with my torx, u used an Allen that fit and removed it carefully.
I also managed to remove the unit without cutting the wires likes other did, follow the wire, it is held to the consol by a clip that you must pull the carpet back to reach, then unclip it.
I have a 2011 glk350 4matic. I want to change the aluminum shaft but I am having trouble getting started and removing the console.i have spent alot of time searching online and looking around the console myself. So far, I have removed the back of the console and 3 screws, 2 on the back and 1 under the little rubber compartment. I have the step by step instructions once I get it open. Can anyone help me past this point?

Thanks for sending. I have seen this video and the console is different than the glk so it did not help me.. I wanted to see exactly how to remove the screws etc on the glk console and how to get it off without breaking.

The video C class is very identical to GLK except it's right hand drive vs left hand drive.
I put a short instruction to remove the shifter cover. Hopefully it helps.
