2018 E63s vs R8S vs M4 GTS
Car shopping. What are the pros and cons for the 3 cars for all those car buffs on here. I know it's a AMG forum, but it's has some good and even heated discussion about other makers that I like to hear about.

A $134k rebadged 3-series? Yeah, no. And unless it has a lifter button like a Lambo that low-*** splitter will live up to its name the first time you go over a speed bump...

R8 all day. Unless, like me, you have two toddlers & need a 500 hp daily. R8 plus is on my wish list.
Cheers & happy hunting, M4 is way overpriced, just my humble .02.

2020 Audi R8 V10, 2016 AMG GTS, 2018 E63S Edition 1, 2018 Porsche GTS Cab, 2012 C63 BS
There is something about a N/A engine that has over 600 hp (Gen 2 R8 Plus or a tuned non Plus) and the car is incredible from some many standpoints: handling, looks, sound, feel, ownership, interior... I just love what the car exudes. I come from 5 Porsche Turbos including two Turbo S models (14 and 16) and they are rippers. My 16 was modded with tune and catless and was pulling low 130 mph traps (cars similarly modded) but yet it was not a car that made me excited to drive it on a daily or even weekend basis. Its just not as "special" IMHO as an owner of both cars. The R8 sounds so brilliant too; its a V10 symphony and I know its not at as fast as the 991.2 Turbo S in almost every test and I have no problem with that. I could have got that car but it was time to get back to Audi (had a 2012 V10 R8).
I have no seat time in the M4 but indeed its just a race car that can be street driven and didnt appeal to me.
The E63S is an intriguing car and Ill bet it out performs almost every sedan that is available but the car itself is not available now so I current have an RS7 Performance which serves my sedan needs. I think the E63S is a bit muted in the appearance department as the Benz Sedans have gone that way (S, E, C). I know the RS7 is not for every one with its "hatchback" platform but Im on my second tour with one (had a 14 too) and this 2017 is miles ahead in feel, steering, suspension, and overall feel. The tweaks that Audi did have pulled out the understeer and almost all of the tq steer as well. Its still a big pig at 4500 lbs but it handles more like my departed 2016 M5.
I know that the OP just threw out 3 cars in 3 segments but thats my thoughts as an owner of the current R8 and a future of buyer of the E63S (yes Ill get one .

First tell us why anyone would cross-shop these vehicles. What one is looking for in A is nothing you'll find in B and C is completely different than the other two options. It's like walking into a bar asking "what are the pros and cons of mac18 vs. chateau lafite rothschild vs. veuve cliquot?" while each one very good in their respective category have very little to do with each other except being liquid with alcohol in it.. same with these vehicles you asked us to discuss. each one very good in their own way but the only thing they have in common is that they're all automobiles.

Agree on the muted look. Even the new E63 - looks like it has baby wheels on it, car sits high and arched...sometimes I look at it and say wow, pretty...other times, like next to an RS7, or a Model S, etc...it just looks thick, clunky, and boring.

Might sound stupid, but should there be a concern on the R8S with the start and stop button on the steering wheel that might be accidentally pressed while driving?

As a happy owner of an E63 Wagon ('16) I'd absolutely go for the R8. It's a special car and I'd love to spend each day listening to the N/A V10. Oh baby! If it weren't for the 2 car seats, dog, bikes, strollers....

1,000 HP for 99k installed is insane, but I was looking for something that looks good and fast off the bat. The 911tt is too rounded and small to the wife's liking. Leaning towards the R8S, but trying to overlook the grill on it which is my only downfall.

Thanks for the headup on the license plate bracket, I really can not image a license plate on the grille though. I would think that one can't accidentally hit the button while the car is in motion, but was hoping for a defiventive answer ( not that I wish someone actually go out and try it ).

have you considered the AMG GTS?
That R8 would be a great addition - beautiful and that V10 sounds just amazing while in the cabin - personally not a fan of the M4 and not sure of the new E63 yet - want to see in person to get a feel for it - i'm also a geek for wagons, so hoping to see the new E soon -
cant wait to see what you end up with

Thanks. Now that M4 GTS with the track spec. and roll cage is out, GTS is now in the race for me. Wife wants to wait and drive the 2018 E63 wagon. Who knows it might impress us.
