The only confusion is with the EU market cars because a 2010 could actually be a 2011 built car.

thank you for this informations. I was thinking maybe I could lucky because of the some 2010 63's did not effected(I thought middle of the 2010). So my question is car still running good. Mileage is currently 87k and there is no leaking coolant also water. I care all my cars all maintence etc. Do I have to wait this head bolt issue until happen? It is incredible amg did mistake for head bolt issues but there is no recall etc. your suggestion is important for me. If I change c63 , what year should I buy? Thank you.

No worries, the maybe 2010 not affected is European only because of how they do their model years differently.

Do yourself a favour and get the bolts swapped out now before it's a larger problem down the road.

You need to drain all your oil and coolant immediately, then drive 100miles at high RPM.

It's the only fix for the problem you have.

Hi guys !

I am considering to buy a C63 (451 HP) from 2008 that has a motor number in the low end of the affected area (VIN number WDD2040771F128788).

My question is: What is the casualty statistics on the affected motors ? The C63 on sale has 133 t KM on the clock and shows non of the warning signs (low coolant, engine failure, no white smoke etc). It could just be a calculated risk to buy the car if the statistics on engine failures are low.

What is your opinions on this ?

Will probably fail at some point. When? Who knows.

It doesn't cost much to swap them out pre failure so buy it, do it, enjoy it...

So you're having the bolts swapped before failure? Good plan!

Yes, I receive the car on sunday, and plan to go to my local mechanic and ask him to do the one bolt at a time swap.

However, I talked to an AMG expert yesterday, and he adviced me not to choose the bolt by bolt swap, but instead remove all bolts and the cylinder heads and swap gaskets and bolts this way.

This sounds like a more expensive and much more complicated bolt swap, so I will ask my local mechanic for his opinion on the methods.

I see that but I'm not quite sure if my engine number is affected because my first digits are higher but my second number cluster is lower

Same answer, but since you need more understanding, it's the last 5 digits that are the serial numbers. Yours is way below the 60658 changeover. Please go do some research on the forum prior to asking follow-on questions, cuz they've probably been asked multiple times.

The AMG expert said that the cylinder heads could be damaged if you made wrong tension by only removing one bolt at the time. I am definitely NOT a mechanic so I cant tell if this is true

You loosen just one out of the ten bolts that hold down the head to the block. The other nine bolts are still at full tension. Even if the head was made out of a very brittle ceramic, it wouldn't hurt it.

I'd stay away from this so-called AMG expert!

VIN: WDDGF77XX8F157820
Talked to a MB dealer and he told me that he's only done 2 headbolt replacements out of the 3 years working at MB and said that it isn't super common.

It's an '08, but he said there's a possibility it won't be affected. Just want to be sure. Has about 87000 miles

He's wrong. You're 100% affected.

And by the way, seeing 2 HB replacements at one dealer in 3 years is actually a lot.
