Enjoy Your E63 For What It Is
Hello all,
I just wanted to say a little something. By now the frequent fliers here understand the drawbacks of the E63 such as launching. However, I feel like there has become this underlying disappointment all-together with the car and Mercedes-Benz. That said, I think it is important for everyone to take a step back for a minute and appreciate what we really have.
A sedan that is well on it's way to 5000lbs that will boogie along better than most other cars on the road, including "sports" cars/coupes, yet fit 5, luggage, and give you a heated/cooled massage along the way.
I see comments like "the car is just put together and not engineered." And you're welcome to that. However, if you truly step back for a minute, forget what you know and what your biases are, and you have yourself quite the machine.
I feel like some of you are forgetting that and when you get in your car you'll think "I can't launch this trash" or "BMW / Audi RS drivers are out to get me." But when you do that you're leaving a lot of good times on the table and forgoing the opportunity to really enjoy yourself.
If you absolutely need to point the finger in a direction point it at our aftermarket companies who aren't listening and just putting out things that put down big numbers on rollers, but fall short on time slips. Or, this may be harder, point the finger at yourself for buying the wrong thing. Whether you were impatient and didn't inform yourself properly, or whatever the reason you ended up in the car, you're here for one reason or another... Right?
At the end of the day it is a great car that was delivered to us. And if there was no such thing as an aftermarket world people would be ranting, raving, and preferring this car over the competitors more often than not.
Anyways, I'm not here to start arguments or debates. We've already had those in plenty of other threads. All I want to do is make sure that you embrace the fact that Mercedes themselves gave us something great and I hope that the car still finds a way to put a big grin on your face as you dust basically everything on the road. Will we break into that 2%? Most likely not. But being this close is a feat on its own, remember that. It really would be a shame to find yourself disgruntled in what the rest of the world can really only dream about experiencing.
Cheers

Great post, thanks.
I think you could broaden this beyond AMG. Are any of them perfect? No. Are they still great? In most cases, YES.

I love my wagon 2016 specially after the clutch and gear adaptation, my 2015 is awesome too just a little lag left after the adaptations and it is missing the CCBs, but that is on me. I just wish the brought the C class to the USA

Great post, thank you!
So my assumption is that 90% of 2014+ E63s owners bought these cars for reasons below which were factored in my decision and few other cars could meet.
1) crazy fast car (for 4500 lbs)
2) sedan seating for 5 (accomodates kid car seats)
3) all wheel drive
4) AMG performance (nothing more to say)
5) Mercedes comfort / luxury / build quality (massaging heat or cooled seats, DVD, etc)
Bonus is it runs stock mid 11 quarter mile times and can easily be modded from 3k canned tune for 100+ more HP and low 11 quarter mile time to below 10 quarter mile with a bunch more upgrades.
Maybe better once one of these tuners figures out the TCU limitations.
It's absurd to buy an E63s in hopes of having a 9s quarter mile car that seats 5 and massages your back in luxury, yeah then you'll clearly be disappointed. But the owners of these cars here know that's not why they bought one

Not to mention you can throw this car into the corners and it tries to handle like a 1500lb lighter car ... very impressed
and this sh-t looks good!!!
this is my daily driver it's just a fun car to drive each and everyday ... just won't drive it in the winter/snow

Peter - could not agree more!!! Put on the Sport + suspension and trans then hit the curved on/off ramps from the Edens expressway and its a blast. But for sure the Chicago pot holes suck they are everywhere.
E63's look damn good, a classic, AMG and it shows. M5 similar distinct look differentiated from the 5-series.
Seen a lot of Audi's at East Bank Club garage downtown and the S7, A7 and RS7 all look pretty much the same from what i can tell. Not appealing to me.
I think time will tell but the M157/E63 4matic will to me be a classic....

Great post and long over due. Too many of you asshats get wrapped up in bench racing your cars on the internet. Because one car runs fast on the internet, does not mean all Do, even with same mods. There is always someone faster. Deal with it!
First off, the percentage of AMG, M or RS owners who mod in anyway and race their cars is probably less that 10%. Then the the people who go all the way with full max builds (ie turbo upgrades, motor and trans build) is less then a tenth of one percent!
I mean there is probably less than 50 cars in NA with turbo upgrades across all three brands. How likely is it you are ever going to "run into one at the lights" to prove yourself. A stock m157 AWD will murder 99 percent of cars, while you sit in luxury and cool your *** cheeks, massage your back, and listen to satellite radio. The fact that you can have all that, AND run a 10s quarter mile with a tune and dps is a god damn miracle. Seriously, do any of you realize what it used to take to have a 10s dailey driven Street car even 10 years ago?
A fully built, Turbo upgraded m157 car will be faster than 99.9 % of cars on the planet. Who cares if it sets "records" on you tube or drag times. I enjoy my car every time I drive it, it looks sexier than any M Or RS car, has a nicer interior, and I always look back at it and smile when I walk away. Does the fact that somewhere, someone may have possibly run faster at their local track make any of that change? Not one bit!

Track toy with seating for five
On the other hand while it's not a Demon-slayer the W212 platform makes for a stunningly competent track car. I had my 2011 weighed the other day - 4434 lbs with M156 and the pano roof! Yet with all that this beast will hang comfortably with similar vintage Corvettes, Mustangs and Camaros. Last track weekend I was even bothering the Miatas in the corners!
Remember, when Top Gear had the 2010 E63 on the same weekend as the Camaro the Stig went around that tight course 3 seconds faster in the AMG. That shouldn't even be possible!

down here, if you run up against a M or RS car, most likely its more than just a tune only car..... i got smoked hard by a stock turbo tuned m5 a couple times down here
go check out pure turbos instagram or bimmerboost and you will see there are more M cars running turbo upgrades (and trapping 137-140) than you may think... hell, they have at least 5 x5m/ x6m suvs running upgraded turbos
and since you are dealing with tony at vtt you should know that he has tons of bmw N54 cars running his turbo upgrades (he even has one going 172mph in the 1/2)
i dont think anyone is saying our cars are crappy cars, i think what people are disappointed at is of the 3 german luxo performance divisions, amg is currently the slowest (in modified form) with the least aftermarket support... i dont care about beating chevy s-10 (or the other 99% of cars that we are faster than) i care about beating the M or RS cars, which our cars were designed to compete against.
