New brake pads already???
Just reached $23,000 klms and received a warning message that my brake pads are low. Does this seem right? Also drove on a gravel road, thinking it could be related. Apparently brake pads should last 25-70,000 miles, where I have 23,000 klms. Any thoughts?

My wife's 16 GLE63S suv needed new rear pads and rotors at 15,000 miles. The fronts are still good at 20,000 miles.
I don't quite understand this. Maybe it is traction / stability control wearing out the rears first.

I had the rear brake pads replaced and the mechanic explain that active lane assist affects the brake pads and when in traffic the rear brakes work harder so they are the first to go. Hoping I don’t have to change the front brake pads and rotors this year. Coming up to 1 year in October.

It's the absurd power the car makes. Every time you lean on the gas a little your traction control clamps down on the rear breaks (rear wheel biased remember?) to prevent the tires from spinning. Apparently it's a well known "issue" with these cars. My car was a year old with 13K miles on it when I bought it and the dealer had replaced the rear brakes.

With 11,700 miles GLE63s at dealer with:
1) Misfire cylinder 8 (had CEL)
2) ECO Start/Stop not working
3) NAV map update.
Dealer called today to say rear brake pads at 2mm. Price quoted as $470. I did not have a brake pad warning message. I am surprised rear pads out before front. Usually the rears last twice as long as fronts. I think I'll wait for pad warning message to be sure.
I prolly replace myself. Anyone change rear pads themselves? Any warnings or advice. Do the rear calipers need to be removed for new pads? Anyone have rear pad part numbers?

I just sold mine at 35k miles and changed pads every 10k miles. These things are heavy and carry a powerful engine. Didn't expect anything less.

The dealer is always saying my brakes need changing even before the brake warning light comes on. It’s BS and they are trying to maximize their revenue. Look at the Oda yourself and decide. The limit is 2..3 on the GLE Coupe 63S. After that I have ran 1.5k likes with barely any more degradation but just keep it mind, it will wear more quickly at that level when the light comes on. Make sure you account for inside and outside brake pads, but mostly you should see even wear.
I had the CEL and misfires right after my first 10k maintenance just around 11k miles. Never an issue after that.
My auto stop start issues issues were almost gone after 10k. Never died at a stop sign again except once because I did some quick light touch where I was at the threshold. This was around 35k.
My fronts last almost twice as long as the rears. 40k I have swapped them out three times. The front only once. I’m more than happy with my stopping power and I do the brakes myself. So I don’t mind. When I can beat a laser radar, with the brakes I have, can’t worry about the little things. (Don’t try that at home unless you have bad extensive ADA training and know how to maneuver a fast moving vehicle while heavy braking. )
Advice is to get the Mercedes tech sheet so you don’t miss anything. Make sure the electronic brake is off so the pistons don’t pop out and you get hurt.

Got my car back. Dealer says the Start/Stop issue related to battery and the cylinder misfire. A fuel injector replaced.

Thanks. I thought so. I'm waiting for the pad sensor to kick in before I replaced the pads.
I'm gonna get the Ferodo rear pads from FCP Euro also. Is releasing the electronic parking brake an issue? How do you manually release it. Thanks.

My friend is a MB tech so he had the tool to release it. He said it's kind of tricky if you've never done it before because if you go too far you can ruin the caliper.
It's basically a c clamp device with two thick pieces of metal like this and it pushes the e-brake in slowly.

E-Brake cars can retract the pistons for fitting new pads by using the dash menu. I believe this will release the E-Brake. This video provides GLE63 brake info at 14:30 minutes:

The best thing to do is download the MB tech documents from the StarTEK system or get a boosted copy from eBay to make sure you don't make any mistakes.

My 2017 GLE 63S Coupe does not retract the pistons, but only prevents the ebrake from activating. You still have to have the proper tools to push the pistons in. I went all in and actually bought the cool retro MB tools MB techs use. It was hard to find, but they got it for me. But any tool that does the same thing will work.

What kind of photo are you looking for?
I put brake paste on the outside of the pad, but the tech sheet says don’t. Another mb tech told me to do so, but the last two I didn’t put brake paste and never and issue
