Buying a 2015 E400 wagon

Hi all,

First time here...first time buying a Benz. I have four kids and we need a vehicle to complement our Odyssey that can haul 6 or 7 in a pinch and isn't an SUV, and is something fun to drive -- this wagon fits the bill. They seem to be rare as hens teeth up here in Toronto.
This is a 2015 e400 with 50 thousand Kms on it, buying certified preowned from a dealer here...One question - would anyone recommend buying the Extended Limited Warranty?
Not sure how reliable this model is as it seems so rare!

I def would.. I have the same vehicle but in a sedan . Purchased it with 50,600 mles non cpo .. ...I had to get cyl head, 2 burnt valves and fuel injector replaced . The injector was covered under Mercedes 80000 emission warranty. So aside from the injector the total was $7000.. the car has 56000 miles on her ... It cost me 100 bucks with 3rd party warranty . Thank God I purchased the warranty

I think a "reliable family car" and "rare engine with questionable reputation" are on opposite sides of life. Bare in mind that even with warranty - replacement parts coming from Germany will cost time.
Plenty of cars with reliable engines. At least in US.

Can you elaborate on the rare engine with questionable reputation? I see enough E400s, just not wagons around...is the biturbo V6 known to have issues?
If so I may look at a 350 instead if I can find one

You said they are rare?
I have not much knowledge about those engines, but between US and Polish forums I frequent - each time owner of 400 comes, he always has bad story to tell.
That might be even good engine, but driving rare Bluetec myself, my car is sitting brick for 3 months becouse German delay sending replacement DPF for me.
I have several cars, so that is not an issue for me, but would hate to explain the situation to 4 kids and their mother.

Yeah my car was in for 1 month .. luckily I got a loaner ... But I did some research and haven't found many negatives with these engines .. .. y did my car have those issues???? I can't really say .. Maybe neglect ? It was a off lease 1 owner vehicle ... maybe previous owner put regular gas for those 3 yrs and caused the injector to fail? As I believe the root of my problem was a bad injector

Yeah, good points. We have an odyssey for the usual family haulage, this would be only on occasion...

Definitely going for the max MB warranty after your experience, so thanks very much!
