Brake Calipers from a CLS63 on a CLS400

Alright so the CLS400 calipers are designed differently than that of the CLS550/63.

Here is a picture of my calipers on the 400:

Here is a picture of the calipers on a 550:

My question is, could I buy the actual front brake calipers from a CLS63 and would they fit on a CLS400? Would I need specific rotors? It doesn't have to be CLS63 brake calipers, just the ones that are designed like the picture above^ (not too sure what they're called, x number of pistons?) Reason for this is I bought caliper covers but you can see a bit of the original brake calipers. I don't want to powder coat them professionally because I don't think they'll look good being just red, and the design of them doesn't look all that good.

Edit: this is probably doing way too much, will prolly need special rotors, maybe even bigger wheels, kinda given up.

Well, 550. 63 isn't very cost effective.

No, they will not bolt up. If you get a set of used cls63 calipers, rotors, and brake pads, you will still need amg spindles to bolt the front calipers on. rears will be fine.

I've seen posts of those with a 550 + the tune say that they want to upgrade their brakes as the stopping power wasn't enough due to the power. If you decide to get a tune in the future, you may want to get the 63 callipers instead as the car would be making close to 500 horsepower and 540 pound feet. A user did the swap recently. The CLS400 calipers in the US are different than those in the rest of the world for some reason. Him and I have the same calipers though. https://mbworld.org/forums/cls-coupe...t-upgrade.html

Yeah but you're spending $3k at least on the AMG setup.

Either way it's an upgrade for the 400 and isn't a waste of time.

100% right... even without a tune the cls 400 brakes are garbage. The cls550 has better brakes but the 63amg has way better setup. Most people tune the car and forget to upgrade the brakes. I've done many hard stops on the 63 set-up without any hiccups. I definitely recommend the upgrade if you are serious about making power and being able to stop. Not sure as to what power i'm making being i've never dyno'ed. I've ran a few 11.8 @119,117.. 1/4 mile before. Just recently did the tcu tune and i'm working out the launch with rwd. Once i get used to the launch its definitely going to improve. I'm just waiting for 19' r888 drag radials to come in as my old 16' won't clear the amg rear set up.

I'm not saying don't do the 63 upgrade, I'm just saying the 400 brakes NEED some sort of upgrade. The difference in weight between a 400 and 550 is negligible, so having smaller brakes doesn't make sense.

Your 400 is running really strong! And with rwd, really nice. Did you Dragy it or went to track? Go for lighter rims, it will help you too when chasing good 1/4 times.

Nice, there are not many who have Dragy here I think. Do you post on Dragy board your results also? What 60ft are you getting with rwd 400?
