Would like to know if anyone has had this noise and what the cause of it is, had some people say its the injectors and some say its the tappets, would like to know before I get into the engine.

The sound does not play for me.

My 2005 CDI with 245,000 miles seems pretty quiet; however, it is a diesel so it is an inherently clattery engine. Do you have the engine cover on? It is packed with sound absorbing material.

Definitely much louder than my 2006 om648. I hear metal on metal. I think you need to zero in where that noise is coming from waving your smart phone around with camera recording…what about the high pressure fuel pump? Remember the mics are at the bottom of the phone and camera lens is at the top.
