Sunroof Help Please

The driver side will tilt up, passenger side wont raise up at all. Other than that the roof will not open all, I even tried to manually open the roof and it doesn't work either. Can someone please assist on how I can get the glass to open so that I can remove it and repair the issue. I have the headliner down and removed the screws that hold the rails, but still cant remove the glass from the car due to the metal rods that are coming from the motors.

I have an issue with my sunroof as well.

Opened sunroof all the way up + all windows to let some heat out.

Ask the sunroof to close and hear a loud pop toward the rear. Now sunroof will not close all the way.

Sunroof opens and closes smoothly. Rear of glass panel will not drop to close fully.

Anyone?

I have an appointment with the dealership on Wednesday. I wouldn't even worry about taking it in, but when I get up to around 60 mph, you start to hear air around the front of the glass.

Soooooo I'm in the process of removing the headliner to access the sunroof.

Pointers for how one gets the front sunshades out of the way? WIS gives vague generalities at best. Would very much like to be able to reassemble the dumb thing without purchasing a plethora of parts broken upon disassembly!

I had removed the headliner and removed the screws for the rails. I was then able to lift the backside of the whole roof but the front will not come out due to the metal tubes that house the gears that move the sunroof up and down. Good luck if you find a solution, please post back and update.

Here's a video that help me remove the headliner:

I have the same exact issue. I had to manually push down the glass. Both sliding clips broke. Someone has made 3d replacements that do not require removing the headliner.
I have not purchased or tried to replace them yet.

What is the ownership and/or damage history? Sunroofs only stick for a few reasons, the biggest of which is body deformation. Another cause could be hardware in the tracks, or other foreign objects. A lesser likely cause would be inadequate lubrication.

YouTube university to the rescue!

Once the headliner is out I get to figure out what broke with the sunroof.

Window slides fore/aft smoothly. Slides will have more lubrication upon reassembly. Dry sex bad!
Pieces at rear of window that should drop to allow the window to become flush as it closes do not drop at all.
Don't know what breaks that causes it. Something made a clearly audible POP! When I asked the window to close from fully open. Never an issue before.
These cars are all about the secret handshakes. Know enough of those and the snap-together car isn't at all scary.
Car has 135,000 miles on it. Looks like this is the first time the sunroof has needed attention.... No damaged/missing anything upon disassembly.
Thoughts as to what broke? I have pulled the glass. Glass parallel upon disassembly. Rails still in the car.

So you could open the sunroof manually? My issue is I can get mine open at all. I have pushed up on glass while pushing the button to open and I've tried it manually to the point where I felt something was going to either break or get stuck in a position putting me in a worst off situation. I feel like if I could get my glass up, I could at least take it off and clean everything out and or replace all the parts myself. I just know going to the dealer they're going to take full advantage.

It looks like on eBay they are selling repair kits for the sunroof so may be taking a look at those repair kits will help you determine what part you might need. Sounds like it’s the feet at the rear of the glass in my opinion. The ones that raise it up. I’m not sure if you have any sounds coming from the roof when you push the button now, but perhaps you have a code that has locked out the inputs from the button at this point..

My glass panel moves easily powered or via the 4mm allen in the sunroof motor at front of glass.

Bring your choice of sexual lubricant to the dealership. It will be painful.

Sooo it seems the 'rails' for the sunroof will come with all parts that may have failed such that my roof behaves like this.

I will order them up and install. With a medium size quantity of luck I may have them in time for my day off for install.

What a treat of a thing to get to do. I need different tools to get the plastic caps out such that they don't get marred.

Dropped my car off at the stealership this morning. Service advisor gave me " I just did one last week" speech. He said it was about 6k, but that's to replace everything involved with the roof. Waiting for the phone call after they actually look at. I really think for 6k I just may have to deal with wind noise.

Rails come with cables. For sunroof and roller blind. Looking at rails I’m betting that something got in it to limit motion. May be related to the roller blind.

New rails are in. Reassembling. I don’t ever want to do enough of these to get good at it.

With the headliner removed you can remove the sunroof motor and the motor for the blind. Let them hang from the wires. Now you can slide the roof back manually.

Sunroof back together and operational. Rails fixed it. Effort required to do this. Ugh! With practice it would be less miserable. Not to be confused with enjoyable.

So with the motors out, i should be able to push the glass up and back by hand?

Busy enough wanting the suffering to stop that I only took two.

Both of the car disassembled. A fine reminder of why I hate sunroofs.
