Intake air temperature questions

Hello everyone, after logging my 2014 e63 S model a bit today, I noticed my car runs about 20 over ambient temps cruising around 80mph in 80degrees 60% humidity. In stop and go it runs about 30 over. The car is bone stock besides res delete and oil solenoid mod. Is this normal? Just want to make sure my car is running in optimal temps in this hot CA weather bc my FBO e55 with a bunch of cooling mods only ran 8-10 over

thank you

2014 - W212.065 - E400 ( M276.820, 3 liter Turbo) RWD not Hybrid
20F difference between intake air temperature ( boosted and inside the manifold ) vs ambient air, is decent.
My M276.820 3.0 Turbo is also getting that number as GOOD.
Albeit my engine is different, it is the same water to air and location of the radiator for aftercooler is the same as M278 and M157.

E55 radiator for the charged air cooler I believed is in front of all other radiators, also you said you MOD it right ?

Our engines M276.8 Turbo and M157 Turbo radiator or heat exchanger layout as follows :

First layer up front is the AC condenser.
Second layer is for the charge air cooler and transmisission if for my car. Like half height for tranny and half height for charge air cooler
Final 3rd layer is the engine radiator.

So the charge air cooler in our set up is not getting 100% fresh cool air, when and if AC system is running.
AC condenser is hot too. Me being in the tropics, it can go 80C easy.

See below : That 72C / 162F is AC condenser

The one 85C / 185F is my AC compressor body temperature

So its OK for your 20F difference. at a good 83MPH / 134KMH.

Here is my engine log for your reference.................

Run car/engine for 105 minutes. Stop for simple lunch, 35 minutes approx. Engine is heat soaked.

After lunch, 69 minutes run. Data log is 5hz or 5 data points per second.

Your 20F vs my 10-12C temperature difference.
Use this to convert : https://petroleumoffice.com/unitconv...ture-interval/

100KM/H / 60MPH or more is the good air velocity zone for my engine.
Below that, its not so good.

@S-Prihadi , what tool/application are you using to log data and create those charts?

The Banks Gauge and its extra modules + sensors.
https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...e-project.html

One is a Data Monster type where the memory card is at and logging capable, one is ordinary one.
https://bankspower.com/products/bank...ge-datamonster

So two data channels. One is car's OBD data bus and one more is Banks on data bus.
Both data bus combined to 1 log file.

I am still adding more sensors + modules....

Very nice use of charts, and graphics to emphasize the topic.
I probably am telling you something you already know, but the coolest densest ambient air in the intake makes for the best efficiency and power of the ICE.
That’s a big reason intercoolers are added to turbo installations.
When a turbocharger compresses the intake air, making it more dense, it also increases the heat of the intake air(PVnRT).
When the temperature increases because of the compression, the effect of the compression is lessened.
However, if you intercool the intake air(whether air to air or air to coolant) you can get the best of compressed air and low temperature air. That combination yields the densest air.
