Dead battery and emergency key not working
Hi,
So my truck got a flat battery after sitting for a while. Of course the previous day I was thinking about putting it on trickle charge...
So I took out the emergency key to get into the truck, but the key wont go into the hole, just 1/3 goes in![Frown](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
What do to next? I sprayed the key hole with some WD40 but so far it has not helped.
Is it possible to get to some +12v point under the engine in order to charge the battery? Like connecting directly to the alternator?

bumping my thread, any ideas on what to do? is it possible to release the hood latches somehow?
I've lubed the key hole on the drivers door side for a couple of days now, but the key wont go in any further than about 1/3.

No, its not possible to get to the engine bay jumpstart terminals without opening the hood.
Unless you want to try to hack the hood open, which would involve cutting panels, I think your only option is to try your alternator theory first, then break and enter. The nuclear option would be to break the most easily replaced windows and get to a lock tab to open the door. But that would then trigger theft immobilizer.
I have no other ideas.

Just a quick thought, I had to use the emergency key on mine the other day, I found it very difficult to turn initially but I managed it in the end, the issue was I could not get the leverage with my fingers, maybe try holding the emergency key with some pliers or " grips" to gain some extra leverage .

Well, my problem is not turning the key, my key wont even go in fully to be able to turn it. It just goes in about 1/3. On my other car (CLS) the key goes in without any resistance..

Are you sure that is the emergency key that came with the car?
It may have had a replacement fob at some point and ended up with a wrong e-key.
dealer can cut you a new one.
if that is the key you have fod in the lock and that needs picked out or pounded in.

The cluster started right up when connected (could see the clock starting), didnīt have to wait. But just used the remote to open the car and move the seat to access the main battery. not advisable to use it for anything else.
