2018 AMG E63s trans overheating and eating coolant.
I recently just purchased a 2018 E63s. I’ve had the car 2 days and went for a longer driver around 30 minutes and noticed the trans getting quite hot quite quick. I figured I had a rock hit the bottom trans cooler. This seems to be the case as coolant drips slowly from under the front bumper when it sits. What I can’t figure out is the coolant reservoir under the engine cover on the driver side will stay just about full and drip very slowly when not on. But if I drive the car for 5 minutes and park it again all the coolant is gone. PLEASE HELP IF. ANYONE HAS HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM PLEASE CONTACT ME THIS IS URGENT

From a list of issues I put together:
see #18 radiator damage from road debris
also trans overheating discussions #4
https://mbworld.org/forums/w213-amg/...ons-miami.html
based on the urgency, I'm sure you towed it to a mechanic - what did he find?

I haven’t towed it yet. Im a little in shambles, since I discovered it leaking I’ve called my local Mercedes dealer and they said they would need to diagnose it further and can’t take my word but my worry with that is they will act like they can’t find anything for a day or 2 and charge me $199 an hour just for a diagnosis I already performed. I’m just a little worried about taking it to Mercedes especially because it’s out of warranty. Would you think a good Indy shop would be able to deal with this as there absolutely no engine lights or warning lights. I also think the auxiliary cooling pumps probably went from running dry.

I'd take it to the dealer. There are 2 coolant circuits and damage is very common. They will be able to deal with it. They will repair what's leaking and bleed the system. Not rocket science but not something you want a mechanic to be learning on the job. So unless you know the indy has a lot of AMG experience, take it to the dealer.

I’ve got the dealership scheduled for Wednesday to tow it there and look at it. I’m hoping this won’t be too long of down time. I bought the car 11 days ago and it took the dealer a week to find a driver for shipping and then I just got the car 3 days ago and haven’t even put 35 miles on it before I noticed this happening. The temp tag only has 17 days left and I’m hoping I can get it back before that expires.

..and the $199 is usually moved to the service performed if you let them do the work.
MB and Indy will not allow you to tell them what to do as they have to warranty the stuff they work on. Get it in and get them to tell you what is up and then pay for the service. Done deal.
Hopefully you did not run it low on coolant for extended period of time.

I am the outlier though since i have probably the highest mileage W213 E63s on here (Just crossed 140,000 Miles). Untouched and untuned which i think it is why it has lasted that long.

Basic Maintenace of oil, fluids. (I.E. A and B schedule on the dot with no lapse). I did fix a GPS antenna issue but i did the work.
I firmly believe that all the cars with issues are low mileage weekend driving cars.
Also of curious note, I drive my car in the winter (yes in the snow). I just slap on my winter wheels and off to the races. I do have carbon ceramic breaks with the rotors still OEM.

deep breath. It's a sucky situation and likely stressful but you'll be fine and this will be a distant memory soon. It's an awesome car. I have Indy's by me that are amg master techs so I trust them, they worked Benz dealerships for years; ymmv. Not a bad call to take it to the dealer and at least get a quote. $200 is a drop in the bucket.

Awesome outcome
I can also jump to "OH NO I just wasted all my monies and the engine is blown!!!" then it's something simple like needing a new trans. https://mbworld.org/forums/w213-amg/...s213-w213.html
Oh wait.
Glad it worked out

also you may not need tired or an alignment - they may be milking your cash ... proceed accordingly

My MB dealer here reads the tire wear via laser upon arrival. It is pretty slick and shows tire wear through the width of the tire.

They sent a video and when I bought the car the ppi advised new tires. In the video there was steel belt coming out on the inside where u can’t see but where the tire wears the most.

agree change it ASAP I've had two catstrophically fail while driving (separatre times) tires looked fine from outside, inner belts showing and tire delimaniated = zero pressure in about 2 seconds.

THERE IS NO FRONT “CAMBER OR CASTER” AND NO REAR “CAMBER” ADJUSTMENT OEM !
YET ESSENTIAL. TO ALLOW TO ADJUST TIRE CONTACT ANGLES - SPREAD LOAD MORE EVENLY
NOW THE ONUS IS “BACK ON OWNERS” - TO FUND COSTLY PREMATURE TIRE REPLACEMENT !
THE OFTEN QUOTED REASSURING “WILL CARRY OUT A FULL FRONT & REAR ‘4’ WHEEL ALIGNMENT - Is now only adjusting basic Toe (Directional adjustment).
NEW CAR INDUSTRY'S BEST KEPT SECRET. BROUGHT ABOUT THROUGH THE EVER INCREASING SPEED OF NEW CAR ASSEMBLY LINES. “STOPPING” - TO ADJUST SETTINGS IS NO LONGER AN OPTION.
NOW CAMBER (AND CASTER) IS ONE ONLY SETTING - TO SUIT SHOWROOM HEIGHT CONDITIONS. No adjustment to change tire contact angles to cater for high cambered roads with excess passenger side edge wear, Fitting wide profile tires, altered height, extra passenger loads or having “ongoing adjustment” for curb knock damage.
WHILE FOR PERFORMANCE / TRACK DAYS IT IS INCREDULOUS NOT BEING ABLE TO “DIAL IN EXTRA NEGATIVE CAMBER” - TO SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE UNDERSTEER. In the pursuit of hitting those corner apexes every time. Plus allowing to go “deeper into the corners” with increased traction and braking response. With the aim of “FRONT ROW OF THE GRID LAP TIMES”.
At K-MAC we have therefore designed “BOLT-ON” Front and Rear kits - where no special tools required to fit or time consuming need for control arm removal !
While the unique K-MAC patented design adjustment system - allows precise easily accessible “single” wrench adjustment. Ultimate - direct on alignment rack UNDER LOAD.
Front Forward facing thrust arm bushes K-MAC are also Mono ball / Self aligning - Replacing the large diameter soft rubber OEM bushes. Still allowing arms to travel through their required suspension arcs. YET SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVING BRAKE AND STEERING RESPONSE.
The above Front and Rear “adjuster kits” - are all part of a “TOTAL SYSTEM”

Got the car back from the dealer today they connected the hose back replaced all 4 tires and filled the coolant reservoir under the engine cover up and bled the system. Car isn’t leaking and was staying cool my whole 58 minute drive home.

Pirelli pzero pz4 sports
front-265/35zr20 (99y) Xl
rear-295/30zr20 (101y) xl
all together is was 1800 for tires and labor, 179 for alignment and 79 for coolant tires were pricey but I looked online everywhere and couldn’t beat their price for the specific tires recommended.
