In hindsight, you're 100% correct. I guess they had to create something shaped completely different from the S-Class to pull off another model. In marketing we call this line extension, it's done all the time. However, the execution was the problem. I don't think heritage MB buyers wanted the egg shape, even though the car was otherwise fantastic. But, if they would have done something less radical, and still been forward thinking, I think it would have worked. Coming so late to the EV party was also problematic. They launched the EQ models at the absolute worst time. Nobody predicted that.

I sure hope this isn’t the design in this rendering. Too rolly-polly for me.

Very excited for that move... a fully electrified and real S-class would be awesome. I wonder that that means to the current EQS...... In my view, the EQS did really well for a car that doesn't look like a benz and was also introduced around COVID (at least better than expected).

They have been saying all along they intend to unify the S and EQS, and this article is more of the same.
They're aware that the EQS design language was a miss: Anytime the corporate boy wonders blame customers for not warming up to a design that was too challenging for them, you know they're aware they blew it.
I'm any event, there's no way to know whether the picture is a reasonably close facsimile until we get closer.

This site must have problems with pictures - they keep disappearing and then coming back...
But yea, not a fan of this picture/rendering... what is happening to "luxury"...?
And in the picture it looks like they are copying the new Lincoln side fender/door badging...

I was trying to decide if this render was supposed to be with the AMG styling package, the vanilla car, or, whether the artist knew there was a difference. It does seem like the look depicted is leaning toward sport, gotta agree with that.

i disagree on the idea that EV’s are a fad. I think they are great under certain circumstances. For me, an EV will be perfect, 95% of the time. I’ll work at the other 5%. And, I should say, that it’s not about saving the planet for me. I love the way they drive, so silent & smooth. I love the idea of not having a multi-speed transmission and I love the idea of not having to fill it up with $6 gasoline here in LaLa Land where I live.

I'm really amazed that you have considered an electric only car. This is the most ridiculous concept in transportation history. It's like whipping a horse with an empty gas pump hose. An all electric car is only a supercharged golfcart for those who only need to go 100 miles to work or to the local Publix grocery store. I need a car that is dependable. A car that can be filled up with gasoline within 20 miles, A car that I can depend on going 400 miles with no surprises. C'mon Streamliner. Get back to your heritage no matter which brand.

Rescue charge vehicles already exist. These use storage (a battery) which is charged off cycle, rather than ICE to charge their packs, which is then transferred to the stranded EV.
Whether you run out of battery or gas, you're equally guilty of dumbassery. I don't know how the very idea of EVs can be called ridiculous due to range issues, considering many EVs now have more range than some ICE models, and that many cars never leave their home area during the course of ownership. Range lacks teeth as a global argument against EVs. Certainly it is a realistic reason against purchasing one for people that do need range which makes ownership undesirable or untenable, but it's not an argument against all EVs, for all people.

I like the emergency charging idea. You know that SOMEONE is going to do that.

In all cases am glad we all have options. I know some EV owners are also as biased and blind as some ice-only fans. I see value in both, and I own both, but no doubt I see more value in EVs as long as range is decent (not other sacrifices at all). There is literally nothing to miss with the switch. But again I’ll always (at least short term) have at least one ICE car, mostly the SUV or Van (until Lucid, Rivian or anyone makes a 500 miles lux SUV ) A PHEV would be ideal (VERY excited for the new PHEV X7 in 2026).

Good question. My I7–along with about 400,000 other new vehicles—is caught up in a world wide recall & “Stop Sale.” My incoming car is a 2024 and the 2025’s are already on the road. Unless the dealer really sharpens his pencil, I won’t be taking delivery. Hopefully, BMW will fill the trunk with cash.

If you really think you bought the right car, personally, I’d just take it when it becomes available.

PFL205.064 with M276.823 (Oil pump solenoid defeated)
Since it’s a lease anyway with no intentions to buy it out later, why do you think it matters to you if a MY25 was printed on it instead of MY24? Or why the dealer should revise his offer if you both had some sort of (informal) agreement? I think you have good/valid argument if the stop sale lasts for months but my guess is that it will be addressed in a few days or couple weeks.
